Hi all, quick question , a DataView is memory resident "view" of data in a data table therefore once populated you can close the connection to the database. Garbage collection can then be used to "clean up" the DataView once it is not referenced and will not effect the number of connections to the database. A DataReader on the other hand always maintains a connection to the database and must be explicitly closed (Do not rely on garbage...

Hello, I have a generic method in a utility class that grabs an sqldatareader and returns it. Due to the fact that (AFAIK), you can't close the database connection before you've read the data, this method doesn't close it, it just returns the datareader. The calling code uses the datareader and then just lets it drop out of scope, to be picked up by the garbage collector. Is this a problem? A friend of mine suggested to me that not...

Hi, I have a situation where I have two datareaders, and I want to make sure any given field from Datareader A exists in Datareader B before I can do anything with that column. I tried the code below but I get an exception thrown because the column doesn't exist in Datareader B. I'm not opposed to using another method but the same thing happened when using a Dataset. How do I do this??

Hi all, the question I want to ask if the conversion of a DataReader to a Table looping through the DataReader is better than using the Fill Method of the DataAdapter... I'm asking because internally the DataAdapter uses the DataReader... so whats the deal of writing a method that converts a DataReader into a DataTable ? Thanks!

Hello All, I would like to use DataReader based accessing in my Data Access Layer (DAL). What is considered to be a best practice while returning from a DAL method that executes a query and returns N rows. DataReader object? Collection object? DataTable object? Returning a DataReader object is not a good practice...right? Thnks for all your suggestions!!

Note, I'm using C# I am wondering what type of control I should use for iterating through the set of records returned by callin this method below, so that I can then do some stuff with each record like string manipulation, or taking the data for insertion into another table, etc.. Here's the function that returns the data as an ArrayList. Note: You'll see plain S and B since for this post, I wanted to keep our

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
