Question about Global Assembly Cache

Ray
Dear all,

Now, I am using Global Assembly Cache to share assembly between server
and clients. However, it seems that the server and clients use individual
Global Assembly Cache. For example, the assembly is placed in U drive, I
have to use the Global Assembly Cache Tool in the client PC to add the
assembly to the Global Assembly Cache of the client PC manually. Should I
set something in the Global Assembly Cache Tool in the client PC in order to
add the assembly from the server automatically while the version of the dll
is updated?

Thanks a lot,
Ray

Hi Ray

Given that you have given your assembly a Strong Name to go in the Global
Assembly Cache, you could also try not adding your assembly to the GAC, but
instead placing it in a location that is accessible to the clients and the
servers, and using a codeBase element in your .config file. Try this URL for
more help:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...rfCodeBase.asp

I just reinstalled .NET 2003 (after repeated attempts to get ASP.NET Web Applications to work). I first did a complete uninstall of .NET 2003, .NET Framework 1.1, and IIS. I also completely deleted c:\inetpub\wwwroot and rebooted before reinstalling. I created a new virtual directory from within IIS (e.g. MyWebTest). Then I tried to create a new Visual C# ASP.NET Web Application pointing to the location http://localhost/MyWebTest. I get...

I am not sure if this is more of an expert question, but I am sure that they are out there. I'd like to setup a general application or bin directory on my Win2003.Net Server that will hold some useful utils that more pages on that server can use. As an example, I have created a Page Counter class that opens an Access .mdb file, counts the current entries for that page, and adds a new entry with some information regarding the current...

I'm confused about the proper use and usefulness of namespaces. I beleive I understand the purpose is so the developer can put classes within namespaces to essentially organize your code. And I understand that you declare your intention to use a namespace within a page through the "Inherits" attribute. I know that using "Inherits" isn't absolutely necessary, it's just recommended so the developer doesn't have to type out the entire...

Hello, I am trying to use vs.net 2005 to migrate a project originally in vs.net 2003. I started with creation of a "web site", and then created folders for each component of the site. I read somewhere that each folder under the "web site" is compiled in separate assembly. I however, did not find that the "web site" creation in vs.net 2005 created any AssemblyInfo.cs file.

Hi, I am trying to create a Setup and Deployment project for a Serviced Component. In my solution I have two projects. The first is the class library that contains my serviced component as well as an installer class. The second is the setup and deployment project. I have added the "Global Assembly Cache Folder" to the "File System on Target Machine". I then copied the files in the "Application Folder" into the "Global Assembly Cache...

I have a doubt regarding the architecture, and working of the ASP.NET framework. I haven't been able to satisfy myself with any answer. I do understand that for each request for a resource (let's talk page), we have 1 HttpApplication object from a pool that is managed by HttpApplicationFactory. My question is this. After all the objects that are created to service 1 request, is the same dll referenced for 1 page. Let's say 3 people...

Hi In my solution I have two projects. First is Library project. The second project uses this library ( dll ). I am registering this assembly in global assembly cache ( by .net configuration tool ). Key pair is generated for the assembly using VS2005 ( I also use VS to sign my assembly using this keypair ) Everything works fine. I am adding reference to created dll, on the second project.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
