HOW TO: Declare DLL functions at run time only

Anyone know how to do something like this:

Private Delegate Function Tick() As Integer
Private Sub MySub()
Dim MyExternalFunc As Tick
'???????? what to write here to declare the equivalent of:
'MyExternalFunc = AddressOf Function GetTickCount Lib "kernel32"
Alias "GetTickCou nt" () As Integer
Me.Text = MyExternalFunc( )
End Sub

Hi M.

When you do not know exactly know how to use a DLL function, why than not
first look to managed code which will do run your program a lot more save.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...l/win32map.asp

The tickcount is one of the most easy ones in dotNet
Dim MyTick As Integer = Environment.Tic kCount

Just my thought

Personnaly, I understand exactely what you would like to do but ... Is it
really necessary ? First you need the same signature of GetTickCount and
your Delegate Tick no ? And second why would you not like to declare the API
function before ? You could declare all functions and in a switch case you
could select which one you want to use ... It is not useful to declare on
the fly. It's my opinion.

Please write a question that can be understood.

Hi Bismark,

I am in doubt, where does declare a delegate function is different from
declaring an Api function?

It declares in my opinon different types (or whatever you name it).

I'm not getting any feedback on the most important benefit in my proposed "Ideas for Python 3" thread - the unification of methods and functions. Perhaps it was buried among too many other less important changes, so in this thread I would like to focus on that issue alone. I have edited the Proposed Syntax example below to take out the changes unecessary to this discussion. I left in the change of "instance variable" syntax (...

Hi! I'm trying to declare a structure that will be including pointers to functions. These structures in turn will be pointed to in an array and depending on a index value that specific function in the structure pointed to by the index will be called with various data. 2 questions for anyone who can answer: 1. in class declarations, I realize you have to use the NEW keyword if you want to declare & instantiate some class at the same time. Whats an advantage for just declaring at the top of say, an aspx page, and then instantiating when you need it in various functions in the page? 2. I can't seem to figure out a way to use the NEW keyword to instantiate a class coming from a session object. ie,...

How does one declare an event within an interface, so that every class which implements that interface must implement that event? I think I just need to specifiy the actual event as I would a function, but what about the delegate? Up to now, all my interfaces have only dealt with properties and functions. Here's basically what I want to do (for example): public interface IFoo

I have some SQL code I wrote that returns about 15,000 rows (using a group by statement, raw data is around 1mill rows). In this code I have a few variables that I declare and set. These variables for the most part are just calling functions that return a set value that I use later in my script in Where statements. The script runs in about 11sec and all the data looks good. Now I would like to create a view with this script, my ultimate...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
