really need help with this one

Bob
MS offers casting success as the only solution to determine what you're looking
at when you have a System.__ComObj ect. "t.IsAssignable From(o.GetType) " does not
work. "t is o.GetType" does not work.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;320523

Please, someone tell me there is a simple way I can test cast through a large
set of types without having to use (or generate and compile on the fly) hundreds
of lines of code? :(

Bob

This is more of a conceptual question: 1. More and more companies are using VPN's and locking out internet connectivity (for a host of reasons, security, productivity, etc.). 2. ASP.NET requires a web server and has more layers than a .NET Windows application 3. a .NET windows app .DLL's and .EXEs are very small So which is better,...

I'm learning C++ after having spent several years in the computer industry doing both system administration and engineering. I've written code in Perl, Bash, Pascal, Ada, C, Mathematica (hundreds of lines of OO code, not 1+1), JavaScript, Lisp, and Java, as well as C++. Each of these languages has it's strengths and weaknesses. My...

Let's say we're gonna make a system library and have a class with two prerequisites. * It will be used _a_lot_, and therefore need to be really efficient. * It can have two different implementations. (e.g. Unix/Windows) I feel stuck. The only solution I've seen so far is using the design pattern 'abstract factory' that gives me a pointer...

Hello group! I'm in Europe, traveling with my laptop, and I don't any compilers other than Borland C++ 5.5. available. I also don't have any manuals or help files available. Sadly, more crippling problems! I never used C++ much, so, I don't remember commands or fuctions well. My questions are simple. I posted the DOS window output so you...

Wait.. before you flame.. If someone can program in Java, or Javascript, or C, or (insert your language here that uses basically the same syntax as C#), and that person knew how to program in VB.NET (meaning they understand the .NET Framwork, how to use the IDE, the classes and components available, etc.) then would they really need to...

Is C really portable? And, apologies, but this is possibly a little OT? In c.l.c we often see 'not portable' comments, but I wonder just how portable C apps really are. I don't write portable C code - *not only* because, in a 'C sense', I

Hi. I seem to have made some progress on finding that bug in my program. I deactivated everything in the bignum package that was used except for the returning of BigFloat objects. I even crippled all the constructors. So now all the operations and constructors that were used do is just return BigFloats but no memory is actually accessed at...

I ran afoul of this Compiler error CS1612 recently, when trying to modify a Point, which I had made have a property. It's pointless to do this (initially it will compile, but you'll run into problems later). Apparently Point is a struct, a value type, and it does not behave like a classic structure (in my mind's eye, and see below)....

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then...
