Data access requirements - which version(s) of MDAC for Access on Windows 98

Let me rephrase a question for which I received no answer.

I thought dotnet requires MDAC 2.6 or later for data access. I have a dotnet
Windows app that uses Access. It won't run on Windows 98 unless I install
MDAC 2.5.
Does this mean I need to install both MDAC 2.5 and 2.6?

Thanks,
Jan

No, just install the latest version. However, if you are working with an Access database you will
also need the Jet 4.0 Service Pack.

Many thanks - although I wonder why this dependency wasn't recognized by
vb.net

Hello, This problem has been a little unusual for me. I have an Access database, and, on several forms, I've seen this issue occur wotj listbox and combobox controls. Basically, I'm just putting either control on a form to serve as a look-up to a table for a field on that form. It seems that, very intermittently, the controls will not populate with data.

Hi to all! A customer of mine told me some days ago that her IT-people told her ACCESS would not be such a good idea for continuing with our project, because Access will not be continued in the future. I haven't heard of this. Does anybody know more about it? The IT-People usually prefer Oracle. If they really want to go in this direction, could our Access-application (if continued) be used as a front end with an Oracle back end? Does...

Hello, We have a legacy application which relies on an Access 97 database (upgrading is nog an option atm). As we are setting up a new server (Windows 2003), we started experiencing problems running that application after installing all required updates (Windows, Office, ..) It did work before updating, with a basic OS + application installation. Somewhere an update dit break things, but we do not know which one.

Some time a ago, on this newsgroup the following comments were made in recommending good references for Access (2003) >I used to recommend Dr. Rick Dobson's, "Programming Access <version>" for >people moving from power user to developer, but now I suggest you browse >it, >too. Hello All, I have been working on this for almost a week now and I haven't anything up my sleeves anymore that I could test in addition or change.... Since I am not sure, if this is a Windows 2003 Server or ADO or ODBC issue, I am posting this on all of the three newsgroups. That's the setup: Windows 2003 Server with IIS and ASP.NET actiavted Access 2002 mdb file (and yes, proper rights are set on TMP paths and path,

I've designed a program that accesses an MS Access database. When I install the program on another computer (after installing the dotnetfx), the program will not read the database. I get the error message: "The .NET Data OleDb Provider requires Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) Version 2.6 or later. Version 2.50.4403.8 was found currently installed." I assume this is because the MDAC components that come with the dotnetfx must...

Hi, I wrote a Windows app that uses Crystal reports (Crystal Reports version that is part of VB) and Access (dot net framework 1.1 and visual basic 2003). Works fine on Windows 2000 Professional or later OS. I tested it on a fresh install of Windows 98 (without going through Windows update). The failures I experienced and their solutions were: 1. setup.exe failed - solution, used newer version of shlwapi.dll (I was using the newer...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
