Checking if a file is read-only?

What is wrong here. This thing allways returns true.
I want a simple way to see if a file is write protected.
'strFilename' holds the path for the file

Dim isWriteProtecte d As Boolean =
IO.File.GetAttr ibutes(strFilen ame).IsDefined( FileAttribute.R eadOnly.GetType ,
FileAttribute.R eadOnly)
If (isWriteProtect ed) Then Throw New Exception("File specified in 'Filename'
is write-protected")

Actually, it should always return true :) Your asking the the enum if
FileAttribute.R eadOnly is a member of the FileAttribute enum - which it
is...

What you want to do is more like:

If Not CBool(File.GetA ttributes(strFi lename) And FileAttribute.R eadOnly) Then
Throw New Exception(....)
End If

Your code doesn't make sense. It's only looking of the constant
'ReadOnly' is defined, which will be 'True'.

\\\
If (GetAttr("C:\fo o.bat") And FileAttribute.R eadOnly) <> 0 Then
...
End If
///

I was wondering if I can check to see if a file is open? Specifically, is there any way I can code Access to check to see if a text file (datasource.txt to be specific) is open, returning a true value and creating a loop? Then, once the file closes, return a false value and closing the loop? I need to run a batch file using Shell() and then run queries based on the text files that this batch files create. The catch is that the batch...

Hi, What is the most easy way to check on EOF while reading a binary file with all integers ? In lot of examples the read data are first stored in a string, and afterwards the string is checked on *null* value, but that does not work for binary files. Like this ...

Newbie question: I'm trying to determine if a file physically exists regardless of the permissions on it Using File.Exists() returns false if it physically exists but the process does not have the necessary permissions. One hack could be to check for length and that would throw a FileNotFoundException ...but there is got to be a better way!

We hear very often in this discussion group that bounds checking, or safety tests are too expensive to be used in C. Several researchers of UCSD have published an interesting paper about this problem. http://www.jilp.org/vol9/v9paper10.pdf Specifically, they measured the overhead of a bounds

Over on comp.lang.c++, we were dicussing the replacment of: if (expr) Func(); with: expr && Func(); My own initial reaction was that, if I saw the latter in code, I'd say the programmer is playing games trying to impress with funky features. I

Greetings! I've just started learning python, so this is probably one of those obvious questions newbies ask. Is there any way in python to check if a text file is blank? What I've tried to do so far is: f = file("friends.txt", "w")

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
