delete a named instance - how?

aj
SQL Server 2005

I have an empty named instance on my SQL Server 2005 server. Not
the default instance, but a secondary named instance. I would like
to completely delete this named instance w/o touching the default
instance.

How do I do this?

I see various things when I google, some of which say that I have to
uninstall and reinstall SQL Server 2005! Is this really necessary?
Some say that I have to do registry surgery?

As an aside, as part of this, I tried to get to
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290991,
and I get 404 not found. I have seen this with other MS KB URL's as
well. Has the URL protocol/format changed for MS KB?

Any help appreciated.

A freshly minted SQL Server DBA...

I just want to hear people's opinions on this subject. My application has lots and lots of short-lived objects that use dynamic allocation/deallocation. How can I install a second instance of SQL Server 2005 on my machine I already installed SQL Server 2005, I guess this is my first instance. To install a second instance, do I just run setup again?

Hello, I am having trouble connecting to a remote named instance of SQL Server via Pocket PC. I have had absolutely no luck connecting with VS 2005 (even to a default instance), so I wen't back to VS .NET 2003 (I had success doing this a while back). I am trying to connect to a named instance of SQL. This is where I think my problem is. ...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
