Slow updates in SQL Server 2000 BLOBS

Hi

we have a third party application (Adobe Content Server) which
regularly stalls (and times out) during testing. Profiler indicates
the statement which sometimes times out is updating a table by
inserting a 2.7MB binary file into an image column. Are there any
particular 'gotchas' associated with BLOBS rather than standard
datatypes in SQL Server for updates.
