DTS: MSSQL 2000 DTS abruptly exits after clicking Define Columns

3 New Member
I have a medical database being exported to fixed-width text file and then need to ftp. I have a data source and can extract 6 of the seven tables via a Transform Data Task connected to a Text File Destinaton.

When I edit the properties of the seventh Transform Data Task, immunizations, I can get the SQL Query source in and MSSQL is happy when I click "Parse Query". Then, when I go to the Destination tab the options for defining the columns appear. I click "populate from source" and then click "Execute" (the only options available).

At this point MSSQL shuts down completely. The source is a 32 column view with id, date and 30 bit fields. I selected the view into a table with a single row to see if the load of the query was the problem -- no go there.

Has anyone run into this sort of thing before or have any advice whatsoever?

Is there a way to edit the source of a DTS package?

Any healp greatly appeciated.

Warm Regards,
Steve

I went through and added the first 18 fields ok. It is the 18th field that makes the program end abruptly, even though it is the same format as the previous 15 fields. I also tried skipping that field, but the next field after that resulted in the same behavior -- an abrupt termination of MSSQL.

I can't imagine there being a 17-column limit for DTS...

Just installed Service Pack 4 and the issue continues.

Also tried binarily (word?) the remaining 15 or so columns that would not go into the destination list with quotable vs. non quotable and bit vs int.
