Weird issue on client laptop

A user is having issues with replication. The message states it can't
find a database. This database is on the distributor. When I go to
Enterprise manager and add that server with a valid logon (I even
tried logging on as sa), and I look at the databases. They are NOT
the databases that exist on that server. They are the databases that
are on the client (laptop)'s SQL Server. I've reinstalled sp3 (SQL
2000), and rebooted. Went to SQL Query Analyzer and connected to that
server, and still could not see the databases that exist on that
server (still showing the local sql server's databases).

I can connect to the publisher, and other servers that are running sql
server, and they show the correct databases. No one else is having
this problem.

Has anyone out there ever seen this before? (I couldn't find a virus
on the laptop either).

Thanks,

Amy M

Is there a client alias in the client network utility perhaps? Or some
sort of name resolution issue? If you connect to the server by IP
address instead of the name, is it correct?

Simon,

Thanks. I will try doing that as soon as I can get his laptop back.

Simon,

There was a problem with IP name resolution concerning a web program
that our users use to connect while in motels, and the host file had
several weird IP addresses attached to several servers, and once
deleted, the problem was resolved.

Thanks,

Amy

Dear all, I have a very weird Access 97 MDE behavior that I don't know how to explain and, of course, how to solve: .. I have a site with 14 PC's, mixed Windows XP Pro and Windows 98, running an application developed on my laptop with Windows XP Pro. Front Ends are located on user's PC's and Back End is located on a "Windows 2000 Server". Eveything is working properly.

Hi, I'm experiencing a strange problem with .mdb files. We have two buildings connected by optical fiber (a single LAN). Everything works perfect with any file, any size, any application software. The hardware has been tested several times. Viruses, trojans and so on: clean for sure. The problem is that .mdb files (_only .mdb files_) often don't open, are very slow, or even get crashed and corrupted. The weird is that even copying them...

I have an asp.net application that I've installed on several of my customers laptops (they run a localized IIS). I've been doing this for years without and issue. Today I attempted to install this application on a laptop that belonged to a contractor (i.e. not supplied by us). I brought it onto the domain, installed what I needed to, and everything seemed fine. However, when I run the app (i.e. access the default.aspx page via IE), I...

I run my Java programs on a small Linux laptop and today I installed it again on a MS Vista laptop. My linux laptop ran quite a bit faster than my Vista laptop and I decided to find out why. After a bit of digging I found out that the 'server' hotspot comes with the Linux JRE distribution but it isn't there in the MS Windows distribution; it comes with the JDK though. This is what I'm talking about: go to your JAVA_HOME location; that...

Hi all, I have an asp.net 2.0 website that accesses a locally hosted web service. This works fine on servers that are connected to our network. However, I am having a problem with a laptop server that I have built. The code that tries to connect to the web service breaks if the laptop is not within our network. Further debugging has revealed that this is due to a proxy server issue. Our domain sets the proxy server via GPO for all...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
