I am attempting to connect to a remote default instance of SQL Server
2k on Win2k using Enterprise Manager from my local host but receive a
"SQL Server registration failed, timeout expired" error message each
time.
I am able to connect using Query Analyzer when specifying the IP
address of the server (I am also specifying the IP address in my
Enterprise Manager connection), am able to ping the server from the

I have Enterprise Manager on my local machine. For the last twelve
months it has been connecting without problem to my online SQL Server
database provided by my ISP.
Three weeks ago the ISP applied some sort of extra security
arrangements to their SQL Server to allow access only through port

Anyone have any reason why I can open a table in SQL Enterprise manager,
return all rows, and edit the record set, but when I go in through an ADP,
connect to the database, and try to edit the same table, it tells me that
the table is read only. What gives? There are other tables in this
database that I'm able to modify just fine.

Hi,
When I click on the properties of a linked server, all the General
properties are read - only, which means that if I want to edit any
general properties I have to delete the linked server and recreate it.
Needless to say this is a pain. Is this by design or some kind of bug?
Is there a workaround?

Hi,
I need help. I transferred my database from one server to another by
using attach detach process.I created all the jobs which existed in the
old server in the new server. Everything looked fine but a couple of
jobs is a giving me some problems. When I try to edit the job step I
could see that the database dropdown list doesn't contain the database
name(which I transferred from the old server)

I created a stored procedure to update a table on a linked server from a
table in my local server. Both servers are SQL 7, and the linked server is
accessed through the Internet. When I tried to create the stored procedure
using an Access 2000 ADP file, the save command would continually time out.

Just converted entire database to sql and keeping access front end.
Problem is only with one table.
inserting a new record works fine. If I go back to that record to
enter in more data I get a write conflict error. If I try to delete
the record I get a jet database engine stopped because me and someone
else is attempting to change the data. No one else is in the database.
