Here is the situation: I want my server started up upon connection.
When the first connection comes in, the server is not running. The
client realizes the fact, and then starts up the server and tries to
connect again. This of course all happens on the same machine (local
connection only).
The connections can come in as fast as 30+/sec, so the server is
threaded (using SocketServer.ThreadingTCPServer). Further, the server
initialization...

hi all,
im trying to establish whether i have a race condition or critical section
in the following. i have a dataaccess class that continually retireves a
table from a sqlserver (which may be slow). it provides a cached copy of
this table to clients, for them to read from (note: there are no writes).
the idea being if a particular table retrival takes time, the class would
still provide a cached copy.
now the code:

I want to know the differences between SQL Server 2000 stored
procedures and oracle stored procedures? Do they have different
syntax? The concept should be the same that the stored procedures
execute in the database server with better performance?
Please advise good references for Oracle stored procedures also.
thanks!!

hi, everyone.
I'm writing a 2-players game that should support network mode. I'm now
testing it on 1 PC since I don't have 2. I directly use sockets, and
both client and server do computations, the only data transfered is
user mouse/kbd input.
It works synchronously, but somehow, when I play in client window,
both client and server have 17 fps, while when playing in server
window, server has 44 fps while client ...

Hi,
I`m in the process of migrating a Access 2002 (Run in 2000 mode) from
Windows 98 to Win2K Server. It is a shared resource via a file share on
the 98 Server. Client systems are Win98 with the shared drive mounted
and the application run via the shared drive.
I have tried once before, but came across some file locking issues. I
thought i had addressed these file locking issues, but it came apparent
I hadn't when data started to get...

Hello,
Our website is currently developed in ASP/Mysql 4.
The dedicated servers on which it is currently hosted arrive at saturation.
Here is their configuration:
- 1 server PIV 2,8Ghz 1GB RAM with IIS 5 on Windows 2000
- 1 server Bi-xeon 3Ghz, 512 MB with MySQL 4 on Windows 2003
The website makes approximately 10.000.000 of pages seen and 310.000

Is there a way to read data from a linked server,
within a transaction, without using DTC?
The data on the linked server is static, therefore
there is no need for two-phase commit. There is
no need for locking data on the linked server, because
it is not being updated (either from the remote server,
or from the local server).
I don't want to run DTC because:

Hi
Apologies if this is the incorrect group for this post.
I have a Windows Service running that populates a database and a Web
Service that accesses the same SQL 2000 database.
One of my tables within the database records the filenames of files
within a number of folders. If a folder changes, all records for that
folder are deleted and a new set of records inserted. This is achieved

How do you lock a record in SQL Server from ASP 2? I need to read the
record, allow the user to edit it, and then have them click Save and rewrite
it. Obviously I don't want anyone else getting into this record while the
user has it up. I don't see how to have SQL Server lock this record for me
since the connection drops the moment the page is written, and would prefer
to avoid the kludge of adding and handling reservation fields to each...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.

Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
