Coming from the C++ world I can not understand the reason why copy
constructors are not used in the .NET framework. A copy constructor creates
an object from a copy of another object of the same kind. It sounds simple
but evidently .NET has difficulty with this concept for some reason. I do
understand that .NET objects are created on the GC heap but that doesn't
mean that they couldn't be copied from another object of the same kind when...

Has anyone else noticed this? I searched group archives and
found nothing, but it's really starting to irritate me big time.
Here's the steps to reproduce the problem:
Copy something to the clipboard (eg code from a web page)
Open Microsoft Access MDB file
Open any module
Press Ctl-V to insert text
Voilia, the text is gone. Opening access dumps the copy buffer.

Hi,
I'm trying to use the File.Copy() function. It works well when the
desenation file is local (Like: C:\dest\dest.exe). The problem is that when
I'm trying to copy to a destenation that starts with '\\' it doesnt work and
exception is thrown (for example: \\MyComputer\DestDirectory). Even if the
first and the second directories are actually the same- the File.Copy()
doesn't work. Is there any way to copy a file to a different computer?...

Hi,
I have a problem that is sporadic and am thinking it may come down to
a timing issue. I have an asp.net (vb) app that used the
system.io.file.copy method to copy a .pdf file from a network drive to
the local server drive. From there I use that .pdf file to create
another .pdf file using a tool from ActivePDF. The problem I have is
that one out of 8 or 10 times I get an error:
Access to the path "c:\ActivePDF\watever.pdf" is...

Hi,
I'm trying to do a simple import of a comma delimited text file with COPY
but it's returning an error. The file has been granted all permissions in
Linux, so it's not clear to me what the problem is. Version 7.41 is
installed... see below for details:
A comma delimited text file has been placed in a local directory with
permissions set to allow any user to read or write to it:
/root/Desktop/server_transfer/WorldPoints_v2.txt'

Hello.
I have a VB.Net program that copies a file from one server to another server.
This program has been working without any problems for about a year.
A couple of weeks ago the "server from" crashed and had to be rebuilt.
Now, when the File.Copy method in the VB.Net program is executed an error
occurs about 90% of the time, always with a larger file.
Here's the line of code:
File.Copy(sFileName, sDistributionPathFile)

We recently migrated our development environments to a new server. We simply
copied the website's files from one server to the other; we did not use the
site copy wizard to place the site on the new server. Since then we get a
permissions error any time that we try to copy over an existing file; we can
however use the copy wizard to push new files to the server. We can also
delete existing files from the server and then copy them back over...

Hi all,
It's always the simple stuff that trips you up I guess. Here is the
issue I'm dealing with.
I have a folder with 1400 excel files that I need to move to another
location. Since each file has to go in to a particular target folder I
decided that writing a program to move the files is they way to go.
I've got all but this last piece down. and for the life of me I can't

Hi;
I thought I would rephrase a question I asked in another post to more
quickly get to the heart of the matter. My apologies for anyone who
is offended by what appears to be a repetition.
My company has two identical web sites. One copy is for our customer,
and one copy is for us to test our code changes on.
We developed a hard to isolate bug in the copy of the web stie for our

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
