Force Parallelism

Hi guys,

i got the following query:

SELECT 0xFCDE62BD682D6 247A2B0D2E1DFFF 1EAD, ConfGRAssoc.Con fID, ConfGRAssoc.Blo ckDate, ConfGRAssoc.Con fGRAssocID, ConfGRAssoc.All otmentIDPhysica l, ConfGRAssoc.Blo ckedRooms, ConfGRAssoc.Roo mRate
FROM ( ( (RoomType INNER JOIN ConfGRAssoc ON RoomType.RoomTy peID = ConfGRAssoc.Gue stRoomID)
LEFT JOIN ConfGRAssoc AS AllotGR ON ConfGRAssoc.All otmentIDPhysica l = AllotGR.ConfID AND ConfGRAssoc.Blo ckDate = AllotGR.BlockDa te AND ConfGRAssoc.Gue stRoomID = AllotGR.GuestRo omID)
INNER JOIN Conference ON ConfGRAssoc.Con fID = Conference.Conf ID)
WHERE ConfGRAssoc.Occ upancyID In (0x1882AA555328 D2118C080040F62 40F03,0x1282AA5 55328D2118C0800 40F6240F03,0xA3 7EA2045F93D2119 41800104B9E7ED2 ,0xA67EA2045F93 D211941800104B9 E7ED2)
AND ((AllotGR.ConfI D) Is Null)
AND (ConfGRAssoc.Bl ockDate BETWEEN { ts '2007-04-01 00:00:00'} AND { ts '2008-03-31 00:00:00'})
AND ConfGRAssoc.All otmentIDPhysica l IN (0x28C6B8F90A26 DF4F8C0BFBAD69C 330F2, 0x2C9ADBAB31EEE A44B5B11C15AF99 F442, 0x4FFE01AC0F5B8 342BAF196361FF8 13B6, 0xCD7ECE9DFE2F5 549B0DAC3EDDCF5 2EA5) AND RoomType.Suite = 0

this query has different performance on development (3sec) & production (12sec) server.
i found that the execution plan on the 2 servers are different. Dev uses parallelism but prod doesn't. Later i found that there are 4 CPUs on dev but only 2 CPUs on prod.

Is there any way i can force prod to use parallelism also?

thanks,
mandy

If SQL Server is designed for multi processor systems, how can running a query in parallel make such a dramatic difference to performance ? We have a reasonably simple query which brings in data from a few none complex views. If we run it on our 2x2.4Ghz Xeon server it takes 6 minutes plus to run. If we run this on the same server with...

I have a complex query (16 table join) that until five days ago took 30 sec to run. It now takes eight hours. I restored a backup of the database from five days ago and the query plans are completely different for the same exact query. Five days ago the final estimated row count is 1.6M now it is 1.7E+10 OUCH! The amount of data added in...

We're experiencing a large number of deadlocks since we began running SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition SP3 on a Dell 6650 with hyper threading intel processors. We don't have the same problem on Dell 6650's w/o the hyper threading. If I turn off the parallel query processing option the deadlocks stop. I've tried all of the suggestions...

Hi, I have a sql 2000 server with 8 processors, server settings are as default. I read on Technet that it is good practise to remove the highest no. processors from being used for parallelism, corresponding to the no. of NICs in the server. One of our 3rd party developers has recommended only allowing one processor to be used as there is a...

Hello all, We're running AIX 5.3 and DB2 v8.1 FP 9. Topas and lscfg confirm that this is a 4-way SMP environment, however only 1 of the 4 processors seems to be operative. That is, with INTRA_PARALLEL=YES, MAX_QUERYDEGREE=ANY and DFT_DEGREE=ANY overall processor load when running a CPU intensive query is 25% (when broken out - 3 procs are...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not.
