SQL script to update one field in table via batch file

1 New Member
Is it possible to create a batch file of a sql script that would allow end user to update a single field of a table?
For example, a number field is populated but needs to be updated on a daily basis by end user. Say the current value is 10002345 and needs to be updated to 12345678. Can a script be ran that would prompt the end user for the current value and a 'replace' or 'update' value?
Would like to have this in a batch file to be placed on the desktop.
Pls advise.

i don't think mssql is primarily designed for the "prompt the user" part, being an RDBMS. you might need some kind of a front end tool/application

This is backwards of what I usually want--normally if you have a long-running ASP script, it's a good idea to check to see whether the client is still connected so you can cancel execution. However, I have a script that absolutely MUST finish one it's been started--is there a way to cause the entire script to execute, even if the client disconnects in the middle of the process? It doesn't matter if the script returns anything to the...

When you create database diagrams in Enterprise Manager, the details for constructing those diagrams is saved into the dtproperties table. This table includes an image field which contains most of the relevant infomation, in a binary format. SQL Enterprise manager offers no way to script out those diagrams, so I have created two Transact SQL components, one User Function and one User Procedure, which together provide a means to script...

I don't need a detailed description of a solution(although I wouldn't mind), but I am hoping someone could tell me in general the best path to go about accomplishing a task, since I don't know all the capabilities of what I have available. I can learn the details myself I think. I am trying to set this up to be as simple to use as possible since others will be importing data on a weekly or daily basis. I need to import some text files,...

Using WinXP & AccessXP, I'd like to automatically have the records that I've just printed in a report automatically updated to have the 'print date & time' immediately inserted into a 'Date/Time' field in the table of all of the 'just printed' records. The crude way would be to run an Update Query immediately before or immediately after printing on those records in the report, but how would I have this done automatically when hitting the...

Hi, I'm trying to add a column to a table, then update that column with a query. This is all within a single batch. Sqlcmd gives me an error on the update, saying "invalid column xxx", because it doesn't know the column got added. We used to get around this in "osql" by using the EXECUTE command, like: EXEC ("ALTER TABLE tbl ADD newfield varchar(255) not null default ' '") However, it looks like sqlcmd actually checks each query...

I will ask the question first then fumble thru trying to explain myself so i dont waste too much of your time. Question / Statement - Every mdb table needs a PrimaryKey ( or maybe an index - i havnt tested the index yet ) so you can use an .UPDATE( dataTable ) on the data adapter. Otherwise you will get an exception error. Is this statement true? ---- Now me fumbling thru

I'm working with 'pure ASP upload' script which is designed to redirect to an alert/error message, should a file larger than the set limit be attempted to be uploaded. The problem is that, while smaller files do upload successfully, the script does not catch the larger files and rather than a specific error message in Firefox (and IE7), I just get the following: ------------------------------------ The connection was reset The...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
