setup multiple SQL server listeners on one machine

Is it possible to setup multiple SQL Server "listeners" like Oracle's
so that I can have N X M mapping between LISTENERs and DB INSTANCEs?

What I want is to partition access to one database, say "FinancialD B",
through one port; but access to another database, say
"HumanResourceD B", through another port. This way, I can setup a
firewall locking down different client machines accessing the two
databases.

Hi, I'm trying to understand a situation where ASP seems to be "blocking" of "queuing" requests. This is on a Win2K Advanced Server, with IIS5. I've seen some posts (e.g., http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=Tidy7IDbDHA.2108%40cpmsftngxa06.phx.gbl) that indicate that ASP will queue up requests when they come in with the same "session".

I want to setup a database symbolic link within Windows XP to a network drive which has significanlty more space available and can't seem to get it working. Here is my setup.... - I am running MySQL 4.1.7 - I have tried this with both the 'mysqld-max' and 'mysqld-max-nt' servers - Per the MySQL manual (section 7.6.1.3) I setup a 'foo.sym' file in

I need to write a TCP/IP server in C# that can handle multiple connections. My first try was to use TCPListener instances in multiple .NET threads. Of course, I got an exception from System.Net.Sockets about multiple sockets on the same port. This happens even with a single listener in multiple Win32 processes. Will I get better results by using a Socket instance with BeginAccept? Should I run multiple threads, or do the asynchronous...

I need some advice on how I should setup my development environment. I am developing in ASP.Net with VB.net (.NET 2.0). I am working with multiple sites. Some sites that use SSL are on two separate servers (in production). I work alone and do not have a team of developers. In the old days of classic ASP I had a development server that I could host all my sites on. To develop in ASP.net on that same server I need to install FrontPage server...

We have a very large code base and use the partitioned solution model for development and deployment. The problem is that in .NET 2005 the setup projects cause severe performance problems when working with the master build solution in the .NET IDE. Currently we have about 300 projects with another 150+ going to production in the coming months. The build server we use is a Windows 2003 server with quad Intel Xeon processors and 2GB...

Last week I asked a question about connection to database from client machine (developer machine). I have changed the database security setup for "SQL Server and Windows" under (local)Windows NT node of Enterprise Manager. However, I could not setup a database connection to Server from Client using Server Explorer of Visual Studio 2005. The detail is in the following. Configuration of server and client: Server: Windows Server 2000, SQL...

Helpful folks, We recently upgraded DB2 V7 to V8 on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition. The plan is to migrate to V9 as soon as possible. In anticipation of that migration, IT management has decided that all our user desktop workstations (a few hundred) should be upgraded to the V9 runtime client before we migrate the server to V9. This upgrade process will be automated using a response file. Our authentication model is set to CLIENT at...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
