Hi,
Is there a way to catch every select comming to sql and change it to
select with nolock?
or how to make database READ UNCOMMITTED permanent?
any ideas?

If there are no updates in the database, you can set it to READONLY, to
avoid the overhead of locking. But apart from that, there is no option to
do this on database level.
However, the application could issue SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL
READ UNCOMMITED when it connects.
But I would definitely think twice before I took such a step. If you
have issues with blocking, maybe you should rather review indexing
than resorting to NOLOCK.

Hi,
Is there a way of using triggers for this?
Thanks,

Services or applications using ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) 2.0 or greater may
intermittently return empty recordsets on queries that should be returning
valid results. At the time the problem occurs, the same queries successfully
return the expected data when run from non-ADO sources, such as from ISQL in
Microsoft SQL Server. This problem predominantly occurs on multi-processor
computers but has also been known to occur on single-processor...

I wondering which one of the following I should use to get the best
performance.
1. "SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED"
OR
2. "WITH (NOLOCK)"
I notice that when I use the #1 "SET TRANSACTION..." it sets a lock Mode
type of "Sch-S" (Schema stability Lock) which described by SQL Books
Online as "Schema stability (Sch-S) locks do not block any transactional
locks, including exclusive (X) locks"

Hello all,
I'm using SS2K on W2k.
I'v got a table say, humm, "Orders" with two fields in the PK:
OrderDate and CustomerID. I would like to add an "ID" column which
would be auto-increment (and would be the new PK). But, I would really
like to have orders with the oldest OrderDate having the smallest ID
number and, for a same OrderDate, I'd to have the smallest CustomerID
first. So my question is:

I have a combo box where users select the customer name and can either
go to the customer's info or open a list of the customer's orders.
The RowSource for the combo box was a simple pass-through query:
SELECT DISTINCT , , ,City,
Region FROM Customers ORDER BY Customers.;
This was working fine until a couple of weeks ago. Now whenever
someone has the form open, this statement locks the entire Customers
table.

advice. Hope someone can help again because I'm really stumped...
I have been having trouble with the following SQL query in a C# app:
sqlSelectCommand1.CommandText="Select ServerName + '.' + DBName AS
ServerDBName From TestDBList(nolock)Where ServerName

Hello,
I am new to .net and am trying to build a report application that
queries 4 different tables based on a id, and I need to return them in
the same table for easy viewing.
Basically, I have one querie that grabs all of the id's I need for the
other 4 queries, but I am not sure how to get them into a DataTable or
DataSet, or if that is the best way to do this. Seperately the queries
all work with no problems.

Hi all. I hope some of the smart fellow programmers can help me,

blank pages. I stepped through data, the data gets filled correctly,
the Crystal dlls are there, otherwise the application would have
complained the dlls weren't there, and wouldn't show the report. But,
even after trying mutiple times,...

I have a Store Procedure on a Sql Server 2000 Where I use the Table Hint
"NoLock" on all selects.
One of my clients (OleDbConnection from C#) doesn't get the same Result Set
as the others. The result Set should have 31 rows but this client only gets
5!
When I remove all the "NoLocks" everything works fine. How can that be?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
