Hey all,
Recently we had a small re-org which combined DBA teams,
specifically Oracle and SqlServer. Just wondering if anyone has
documentation/presentations, etc that show's how to admin a SQLServer
environment from an Oracle DBA perspective?
I guess, something that map's each DB's concepts to each other. As
an Oracle DBA how to troubleshoot/support the environment, etc....

Hello,
I am starting to examine using SQLServer instead of Oracle. I went
through the SQLServer import utility to copy tables from Oracle into
SQLServer. I then checked the size of the database.
I then started to specify indices for the tables. I did not see the
database file size grow all that much. I kept on using the shrink
command to make sure that wasted space was removed. I even made sure
that minimal free space was allowed.

What's the deal with SQLServer 2005 Beta?
I've just got a magazine with a free cover disk with VB 2005 beta,
and also includes SQLServer 2005. I've installed it, but I can't get it
to do anything. It seems to have installed ok, there are the data files
for allthe usual system and example databases in place, and Task
Manager shows that SQLServer is definitely running. However the

I am planning to convert an existing Access database which has a back
end
(data tables and relationships only) on a server and a copy of the front
end
(form, queries, reports) on each of about a dozen workstations.
I intend to convert the back end to SqlServer and wish to use the
upsizing
wizard. I am acquiring SSW Upsizing Pro! 2000 which seems to be
recommended in other discussions.

Hi,
I need to store and retrieve information from a database. It looks as though
there is a lot more support for SQLServer than there is for Access, correct
me if I am wrong.
What do I have to do to get SQLServer and which version should I be using.
Or is SQLServer already part of the VS.Net? Are there any good examples that
you know of.
