Hi peyenko and welcome to bytes.com!
The
wikipedia article on the EPUB format explains, that EPUB is an XML- and ZIP-based format. Now, XML is mainly used for markup (though XSLT and XPath can do more) which would make such functionality difficult. Also, and this is very important, EPUB is an open format which leaves a lot of implementation issues to the makers of eBook reading software; this means that even if you find a way to implement this kind of communication it may depend on the software used to read the eBook.
That said, there are two ideas I would have that
may work.
- Check out Adobe Content Server; this is software used by many EPUB readers to implement DRM. There might (!) be a way to use that for your purposes.
- Go to the idpf epub site (the International Digital Publishing Forum created the specifications for EPUB 3.0) and read through the specifications. Maybe even visit their forums. There might be something there.
- If you're publishing via iBooks, there is an updating mechanism described here.
In general however I'm not sure how good the chances are so I'm not making any promises.
