I know I've been asking a lot of questions, but I need help!

I made a game not that long ago that's now on pygame.org, but the problem is that my game has a glitch that I can't solve!

Okay, the game's alot like centipede, except it's in outer space and has aliens.
The chain kinda works, but I noticed that the followers will get closer and further away after many sections have been shot.

I think it has to do with the fact that the chain updates everytime the section is at a grid point (not visible) and the fact that everytime a section is shot, the one behind it moves back a little.
