I think everyone who used Python will agree that its syntax is the best thing going for it. It is very readable and easy for everyone to learn. But, Python does not a have very good macro capabilities, unfortunately. I'd like to know if it may be possible to add a powerful macro system to Python, while keeping its amazing syntax, and if it could be possible to add Pythonistic syntax to Lisp or Scheme, while keeping all of the...

Hi ! I am a poor mortal who has become terrified of Python. It seems to have thrown all the OO concepts out of the window. Penniless, I ask a basic question : What is the difference between a class and a function in Python ??? Consider the following code fragments : # Fragment 1 begins a = 1

I've got a pure python module that parses a certain type of file. It has a load() function that allows a callback function to be passed for getting progress information. In straight python, this works fine. However, I'm now trying to use this from a C++ program. The current flow that I'm trying to get is as follows: C++ calls python interface function, passing a C++ function pointer

After working through a fair number of the challenges at www.mathschallenge.net, I noticed that some long-running functions can be helped *a lot* by caching their function results and retrieving from cache instead of calculating again. This means that often I can use a natural recursive implementation instead of unwinding the recursive calls to avoid big exponential running-times. Ok, so I thought, how about creating a decorator that...

I'm trying to create a function that can take arguments, say, foo and bar, and modify the original copies of foo and bar as well as its local versions -- the equivalent of C++ funct(&foo, &bar). I've looked around on this newsgroup and elsewhere, and I gather that this is a very common concern in Python, but one which is ordinarily answered with "No, you can't. Neat, huh?" A few websites, newsgroup posts, etc. have recommended that one...

python provides a great way of dynamically creating fuctions calls and class names from string a function/class name can be stored as string and called/initilzed e.g def foo(a,b): return a+b

Hi, I want to show a Pitch graph/curve of a wave file. I saw that good results can be made by using AutoCorrelation. I have the autocorrelation function and I also have the FFT function, but I don't know what I should put into the autocorrelation function in order to get a pitch line. I have a wave file (spoken text), and also have the FFT results of the wave file, how can I extract from this data a nice Pitch curve. The purpose of the...

How do you compare Python to Lisp? What specific advantages do you think that one has over the other? Note I'm not a Python person and I have no axes to grind here. This is just a question for my general education. Mark

http://www.linux.com/feature/150399 Interesting article with one minor incompleteness. "For instance, the print statement got turned into a print function; you must now put parentheses around what you want to print to the screen. The change allows developers to work with print in a more flexible and uniform way. If someone needs to replace the print function with some other action, it can be done with a universal search and replace, rather...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
