I have been reading a book about the evolution of the Basic
programming language. The author states that Basic - particularly
Microsoft's version is full of compromises which crept in along the
language's 30+ year evolution.
What to you think python largest compromises are?
The three that come to my mind are significant whitespace, dynamic
typing, and that it is interpreted - not compiled. These three put
python under fire and cause...

This is almost working. I've read up on queues and threads and I've
learned a lot, still not enough to fully understand what I'm doing
though, but I'm getting there. Much of this script was copied straight
from this example:

My goal is to scan a big private network (65,000 hosts) for HTTP
servers. Make a list of IPs that are running the servers and a list of
those that are...

I am working on an application on Mac OS X that calls out
to python via PyImport_ImportModule(). I find that if
the imported module creates and starts a python thread,
the thread seems to be killed when the import of
the module is complete. Is this expected? Does
python have to be in control to allow threads to run?
Would it be better to arrange things such that the
file is processed using PyRun_SimpleFile?

Hello,
I'm having a strange problem that is probably due to my lack of
understanding of how threading & COM Interop works in a WinForms.NET
application.
Here's the situation:
I have a 3rd party COM component that takes about 5 seconds to run one of
its functions (Network IO bound call). Since I dont want my GUI to freeze

I've got some reasonably complex business logic in my C# code, in a class
called by a ASP.NET page. This takes around 3-4 seconds to execute. It's not
dependent on SQL calls or anything like that.
I know of the problems with the worker process doing two things at once from
the main thread pool (The old "Sit in a tight loop for 20 seconds and watch
all your webapps die!" issue). So I've worked around the issue by spawning
the business...

Using VS 2003, .NET:
I developed a windows application that performs several actions based on an
input file. The application displays a progress bar as each action executes.
Based on new requirements, this application needs to be able to shell off
other processes and wait while in the mean time displaying a progress bar of
the process's. I am using the System.Disgnostics.Process class to "start"
and "waitForExit" of these processes... I...

I will try my best to ask this question correctly. I think in the end the
code will make more sence of what I am trying to accomplish. I am just not
sure of what to search for on the net.
I have a form that has a button. ( this form is a child form of a parent
form ( main form ).
Anway...in this child form I have a button, and if clicked a bunch of code
will get executed.
I would like to show a Progress Bar / form in modal/ShowDialog...

I have a bunch of processes to run and each one needs its own working
directory. I'd also like to know when all of the processes are
finished.
(1) First thought was threads, until I saw that os.chdir was process-
global.
(2) Next thought was fork, but I don't know how to signal when each
child is
finished.
(3) Current thought is to break the process from a method into a

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
