Data Type Error Using Gdal

3 New Member
Hi guys,

I'm using a simple gdal script to load topography data from a .DEM file to a grid. However, when I do this gdal converts the data into 16 bit unsigned integers, which is no good for reading negative elevation. I though I told it to read the data as 32 bit floats, but it reads as uint16, then converts to float32. Here is my code:

import gdal
from gdalconst import *
import numpy

data = gdal.Open(topoF ile,GA_ReadOnly )

band = data.GetRasterB and(1)

elevation = numpy.empty((ba nd.YSize,band.X Size), dtype = numpy.float32)

for i in xrange(band.YSi ze):
elevation[i] = band.ReadAsArra y(0, i, band.XSize, 1, band.XSize, 1)
Thanks!

Hello there, I am at my wit's end ! I have used the following script succesfully to upload an image to my web space. But what I really want to be able to do is to update an existing record in a table in MySQL with the path & filename to the image. I have successfully uploaded and performed an update query on the database, but the problem I have is I cannot retain the primary key field in a variable which is then used in a SQL update...

I'm trying to write a program in vb.net to automate filling out a series of forms on a website. There are three forms I need to fill out in sequence. The first one is urlencoded. My program is able to fill that one out just fine. The second form is multipart/form-data. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to fill that out in a way that makes the server happy. I set up a copy of this form at my web site so that I could see exactly what a...

I have a feeling that I'm doing things all ass-backwards (again ;-), and would like some advice. What I want to do is: put some data to memory and then access that memory space as an array of data-types of my choosing (eg an array of char, short, or int). The application has to do with generating checksum-type values for files or strings, so speed is important, as I just want to quickly get this value then move on to the next task. As...

I'm trying to creat a data structure, that can be either a integer, double, string, or linked list. So I created the following, but don't know if it is the data structure itself causing problems, or something I am doing in the rest of the program. This is the data structure. struct node { char type;

My computer was moved last week, and the company changed the network groups we work on. As a result, one of the main benefits from Whidbey (database connectivity) no longer works. Situation: 1. I open a new project based on a windows form 2. I click on "data" and then "Add New Data Source" then I click on next within the wizard 3. I have 3 choices Database, Local Database, Web service and Object. 4. I choose Database, click next and get...

Hi, I wrote a function to compute openness (a digital elevation model attribute). The function opens the gdal-compatible input raster and reads the values in a square window around each cell. The results are stored in a "1 line buffer". At the end of the line, the buffer is written to the output raster. It runs very slowly and I suspect the raster access to be the main bottleneck. Do you have any idea to speed-up the process ?

Hi! The question of type checking/enforcing has bothered me for a while, and since this newsgroup has a wealth of competence subscribed to it, I figured this would be a great way of learning from the experts. I feel there's a tradeoff between clear, easily readdable and extensible code on one side, and safe code providing early errors and useful tracebacks on the other. I want both! How do you guys do it? What's the pythonic way? Are...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
