Hi all,
At work we're using python2.3 and I'd like to start getting us moved
up to python2.5. We run Centos4 which is the free, open source version
of RedHat Enterprise. I've got python2.5 installed on this machine,
but am stuck trying to get mysqldb installed and running on this
machine. I've tried with easy_install and by building from the tar
file and both return a long list of errors from a gcc compile. I'm not
sure what to do next to resolve this issue, so if anyone could give me
some guidance it would be greatly appreciated.

Which we would love to do if you cared to post the long list of errors.
Unless the PSU launches one of it's psychic members to work on your
problem - but they are very usually very busy.

I would stay at Python 2.3... Centos (like redhat) relies heavily on
Python. Sure, you could hack it a bit and install both versions (which
you obviously have), but IMO, it's not worth it. What feature of 2.5 is
required that 2.3 can't do? I'd guess that the mysqldb compile is
somehow being confused by the default 2.3 and the version you've
installed or is conflicting with other versions of itself?
Again, unless there is a compelling reason to upgrade, don't or get a
more flexible OS that easily allows for this sort of thing (like Debian)

Second that. Etch came with 2.3 and 2.4, and I added 2.5 and they
never bother each other.

Python2.3 and MySQLdb don't seem to work together on Windows. If I
understand the error message correctly, the problem seems to be that the
_mysql binary expects version 2.2 of the Python dll. Does anyone know of a
fix for this, or when a Windows version that works with 2.3 will be
available?

Since using Python2.3, MySQLdb doesn't work anymore correctly.
Inserting data fails with "IndexError: list index out of range".
Since the MySQLdb website states, that it runs up to version 2.2, I
definatelly shouldn't complain :-)
Is there somebody whose MySQLdb is running with 2.3?

I'm trying to install MySQLdb on SuSE 8.1, but the setup script
complains that it can't find /usr/lib/python2.2/config/makefile. I
just looked at the ActiveState distribution on Windows, the default
Python install on SuSE 8.1 AND the Python 2.3 source distribution
downloadable from Python.org, and none of them have any mention of
that makefile. The whole config directory simply doesn't exist.

Hi all,
I'm running a CentOS 4 server and have installed Python2.5 on there
(it's our development machine) in preparation of moving to Python2.5
everywhere. All looks good with our code and 2.5, except where it
comes to MySQLdb, I can't get that to install on the machine. It
generates a huge lists of errors and warnings from gcc when I run the
python2.5 setup.py build script that comes with the tar file. Anyone
have any suggestions?

have their top-level __init__.py import the package's sub-modules or
sub-packages to make them immediately available within the package
namespace (which is why, for example, you can access os.path.* when you
have imported os) and others don't.
