Change User Password using Python on openBSD

1 New Member
Dear All,

I started using Python just a few days back and there was a requirement of an assigned project to change the user Password through script without user interaction. I could write the following peace of code, which uses Pexpect for the same. The mentioned Poc may certainly help others, incase they need some requirement like this.

import pexpect, sys

if len(sys.argv) != 3:
print "Usage: "+sys.argv[0]+" user new_password."
sys.exit(1)
(user, password) = (sys.argv[1], sys.argv[2])

child = pexpect.spawn(' passwd %s' %user)
child.expect('N ew password:')
child.sendline( password)
child.expect('R etype new password:')
child.sendline( password)

print child.before
child.expect(pe xpect.EOF)

Rgds,
Geo :)

I'm getting configure warnings and make errors when I try to build Python 2.3.4 under OpenBSD 3.5. I don't see anything in the README under "Platform specific note" for OpenBSD. I tried opening the Python tar file using gtar and I tried using gmake just to make sure there wasn't anything weird going on there (I know that using BSD tar when building Zope used to cause problems, so I first thought I might be having a similar problem. I'm...

OK, I've Googled for this and cannot seem to quite find what I need. So, I turn to the Gentle Geniuses here for help. Here is what I need to do from within a script: Given a username and a password (plain text): 1) Validate that the password is correct for that user *without actually logging in*. 2) If the password is valid, return a list of all the groups the user belongs to. Otherwise, return some error string.

It seems that the multiprocessing module in 2.6 is broken for *BSD; I've seen issue 3770 regarding this. I'm curious if there are more details on this issue since the posts in 3770 were a bit unclear. For example, one post claimed that the problem was that sem_open isn't implemented in *BSD, but it is available on FreeBSD 7 (I checked). I'd be willing to help get this working if someone could point me in the right direction.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
