Bug in cPickle with packages and 'object' inherited class

Say you have this structure:

pna/
__init__.py
model.py
__init__.py is empty.

model.py is:
import cPickle as pickle

class A(object):
pass

def serialize():
pickle.dump(A() , open('temp.dat' , 'wb'))
Now open a python interpreter on the root directory of that structure
and type:
import pna.model
pna.model.seria lize()
The following exception is thrown:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "test.py", line 2, in <module>
pna.model.seria lize()
File "...\pna\model. py", line 7, in serialize
pickle.dump(A() , open('temp.dat' , 'wb'))
cPickle.Picklin gError: Can't pickle <class 'pna.model.A'>: import of
module pna.model failed
If you use 'pickle' instead of 'cPickle', it works.
If you don't inherit from 'object' in 'A', it works.

I'm using Python 2.5.1 on Windows XP. I've tested in Python 2.4.4 on
Linux and it works.

Any ideas of what is going on?

Thanks,
Conrado

It works for me. What are those "..." in the file name?

I'm trying to cache some information using cPickle and I thought that using cPickle.HIGHEST_PROTOCOL would give me an efficient representation. However, when trying to load the information back I just keep getting a broken pickle with EOF error from cPicle.load(file('myfile.pickle','r')) if I am not using cPickle.HIGHEST_PROTOCOL or -1 or 2 it seems to

Hi guys, Well, I have a (maybe dumb) question. I want to write my own little blog using Python (as a fairly small but doable project for myself to learn more deaply Python in a web context). I don't want so far to use a database as a backend, I'd prefer use XML which is enough for a small amount of data the blog would have to deal with.

I wonder if someone can explain what is wrong here. I am pickling a list of dictionaries (see code attached) and unpickling it back using the HIGHEST_PROTOCOL of pickle and cPickle. I am getting an error message and trace backs if the list exceeds eight items. Whether I use pickle or cPickle does not matter, i.e., the eight number causes a problem in both modules, although the trace backs are of course dissimilar. This pickling and...

I am working on a homework assignment and trying to use cPickle to store the answers from questor.py I believe I have the syntax correct but am not sure if I am placing everything where it needs to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. When I attempt to run what I have I end up with the following: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/les/workspace/Module 2/questor.py", line 18, in ? f = file(questorlistfile) NameError:...

This is going to be a pretty vague message because it involves a large block of code I'd rather avoid posting. Basically, I've been pickling a dictionary of instances of a class I've created (which contains references to other instances of other classes). At some point in the last few weeks, pickling has stopped working with the following error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "./generateTools.py", line 50, in ?...

I recently tried switching from ElementTree to cElementTree. My application parses a collection of large XML files and creates indexes based on certain attributes. This entire collection is saved as an instance of my Database class. Using ElementTree and cPickle has allowed me to save these instances and use them later. Using cElementTree significantly reduces parse time (~50%) and memory ~(15%) but cPickle refuses to pickle the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
