Does anyone know of a standalone module for parsing and generating
HTTP messages? I'm looking for something that will take a string and
return a convenient message object, and vice versa. All the Python
HTTP parsing code I've seen is either intimately bound to the
corresponding socket I/O operations (e.g. httplib, httplib2,
BaseHTTPServer) and/or buried in somebody's framework (e.g. Twisted).
I want to write some HTTP servers/clients that do asynchronous I/O
using my own engine (multitask), so I need a HTTP package that won't
insist on doing the I/O for me.

Python 2.4 final will probably be released in a few hours so this seems
like a good time to release the standalone email package, version 3.0
final. Unless there's some last second snafu, this will be identical to
the version released with Python 2.4.
email 3.0 is compatible with Python 2.3 and 2.4. If you need to support
earlier versions of Python, stick with email 2.5.5. For documentation
(until Fred flips the "current" docs...

any recommendations? I'm looking for something that will just run from
the unix command line to validate large (20-50Mb) XML files against an
XML DTD.
Ideally something that is actively supported and has good
documentation!
If there's nothing suitable for Solaris a command line program for
Windows might do - currently using XMetaL/XMLSpy parsers which aren't
really suited to large files.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
