GridBagSizer

ncf
Recently, I came across a presentation about wx.GridBagSizer while
trying to look up more info to use it in an application, however, the
presentation noted "Don't use GridBagSizer. Ever."

Can anyone please explain to me why using GridBagSizer would be such a
bad idea? Or is this only applicable when using XRC?

Presentation URI: http://yergler.net/talks/desktopapps_uk/
Presentation Dated: 20APR05
Slide Number: 9 -- "Sanity and Cross-Platform XRC"

Probably just that GridBagSizer is complicated and confusing, and you
can usually get what you want more easily and maintainably by nesting
simpler sizers like Box and FlexGrid.

I'm having some trouble using an HtmlListBox with a GridBagSizer. I'm not sure how best to explain what's happening, but it seems that every time my frame gets resized, the HtmlListBox grows taller, even when the resize is only horizontal, or makes the frame smaller. I'm pretty new to GUI layout and wxPython, so hopefully I'm doing something obviously wrong. Here's a short runnable code sample showing my basic layout (I'm using python...

Hi, What sizers do people use to - contain the notebook control in a Frame and, - contain the contents of a single page of the notebook. At the moment Im using a GridBagSizer for both but this seems to be overkill. Is a BoxSizer a better option?

I am experiencing a strange cross-platform issue with my python program. I am using wxRadioBox to create radio buttons. When I run the python code on a mac, everything works perfectly, but not on a pc. On the pc, no matter what selection I made, the form would think that I was choosing the 1st (top) option. I am astounded that everything else could work and something this simple could have cross-platform issues.

First I am new to both python and wxPython. I have developed a couple of applications for myself with Paradox, but it is time to move on. I am having difficulty creating a solid background for a flatNotebook widget. I have a page that uses a flexBagSizer to display about 40 pieces of information. For those that I have no further use for I use a staticTextBox, for those I want to be able to present more information for (drill down) I use a...

In the following code, I have created a panel with a button and a textctrl object on it. I have also created a menubar that will create a new text file (i.e. textctrl object). My problem is that when I create a new file, it displays the textctrl over the top left of my existing panel. I know that the reason is because I have specified the parent as self (i.e. Frame). How do I get the new file to display in the textctrl widget on my panel? I...

Hey guys, I'm stuck with using a GridBagSizer (wxPython) in a GUI Dialog and am having a frustrating time with refreshing it properly. Essentially, I've got to refresh the contents of the GridBagSizer on occasion with new values. The way I'm doing it works 4 times out of 5 but on the 5th, *all* of the grid objects that are set to various positions in the GBS are set to (0,0) :|

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
