I know a major problem I am having is that I am finding lots of Tkinter
information in 'fragments' of various , sometimes conflicting vintages.
For example the python reference I was using didn't show the '%%' as
an escape sequence, I posted asking how to escape the '%' and after
several helpful responses voila I found a more complete table of escape
sequences. Is there a comprehensive document or book that I can get
that is relatively current? I realize that updates and changes are
dynamic, but I'm realizing that I am trying to use documents that look
similar, only to find that one is several years old, or that another
applies to an offshoot of Tkinter. I'm not even sure Tkinter is the
'preferred' gui anymore. Any suggestions?

Yes, these are two of my staples, though I have occasionally slipped
into 'copies' elsewhere that aren't kept up.

I have a long running application with a Tkinter GUI.
Is there a way to see how many events are pending in the queue?
I want my application to occasionally process events (so that the
output window will update; the root window will refresh if
the user moves it; etc.).

Below is a simple code snippet showing a Tkinter Window bearing a
canvas and 2 connected scrollbars (Vertical & Horizontal). Works fine.
When you shrink/resize the window the scrollbars adjust accordingly.
However, what I really want to happen is that the area of the canvas

Below I have included a stripped down version of the GUI I am working on.
It contains 2 dialog boxes - one main and one settings. It has the following

Tkinter makes it very easy to drag jpeg images around on a
canvas, but I would like to have a "target" change color when
the cursor dragging an image passes over it. I seem to be
blocked by the fact that the callbacks that might tell the
target that the mouse has entered it (<Enter>, <Any-Enter>,
even <Motion>) aren't called if the mouse's button is down.

So, now I've finally started using Eclipse and PyDev as an IDE for my
GUI Application. I just wrote some sample programs as an hands on.
Now I would like to take up Tkinter. I'm using Active State Python
version 2.5 and found that there is not Tkinter and Tk module in it.
