Hi all-
I'm trying to port an ajax spell-checker
(http://www.broken-notebook.com/spell_checker/index.php) to use with
the moin moin wiki and have been somewhat successful. (By successful I
mean I can spell check using the php backend and my python port running
as cgi-bin).
My question is this: moinmoin runs on many python web backends
(cgi-bin/mod-python/twisted/standalone). My spell-checker backend runs

I am looking for a Linux distribution and a standard C++ compiler (IDE
not too important) that can also compile to Win32, to run on my Dell
dimension 2400... I have trouble with new distros since installing a
USB 2 card. I am wondering if it is better to get a new machine and
dedicate it to Linux and C++ development and deal with cross platform
issues later, alternatively use something like Borland C++ on Windows.

Hello, everyb.
Does anybody know simple cross-platform method of probing if
executable binary is available and launching it.
Problem no.1: test if executable file is available
I'll take windows platform as the most relevant in this case.
os.access() doesn't handle env PATHEXT and can't detect if a given
path would be executable or not. Here "executable" means file that

Alrighty Guys and Gals, I have another question that I hope you all can help me with.
I have a report that uses a cross-tab query as its record source. This cross-tab query is getting all of its information from another query. That query, qryRpt, is pulling information from several different tables. One of these table is tblDistributions, a table that holds monthly distributions for a particular investment, and the second is tblDeduction, a...

Hi,
I'm interested in developing an application that needs to run on more
than one operating system. Naturally, a lot of the code will be shared
between the various OSs, with OS specific functionality being kept
separate.
I've been going over the various approaches I could follow in order to
implement the OS-specific functionality. The requirements I have are
as follows :

I've been programming in Python for 5 or more years now and whenever I
want a quick-n-dirty GUI, I use Tkinter. This is partly because it's
the first toolkit I learnt, but also because it's part of the standard
Python distribution and therefore easy to get Python apps to work
cross platform - it usually requires almost no porting effort.
However, when I need a little bit more grunt, I tend to turn to Tix,
which I thought was also fairly...

Hi,
has anybody used McMillan Installer, PyInstall or py2exe cross-platform?
I have a Windows partition with Python installed there, so this would
"only" required working on a different directory and for a different OS.
Since I'm working on Linux, it's awful to boot Windows each time I want
to build a new release.
Any hint in this area?

Hi list members,
It seems to me that this is discussed many times in the past but without
progress. As I understand in general there is no objections and
preferred cross-compilation has to be based on distutils (scons was
rejected).
So I would like to cross-compile from linux(build system) to the
mingw(host system) and note some(many) problems:

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
