OK, I've got a weird one I haven't been able to figure out yet.
Admittedly I haven't had time to dig into the library source, but this
behavior certainly doesn't seem right. Here's a test case:
"""Test program to demonstrate problem with popen2 module."""
import popen2
def main (argv):
mycmd = 'python2.3 -c "for i in range(100000):\n print i"'
p = popen2.Popen3(mycmd)

This could possibly be a bug, but I don't understand it fully
so I'm posting here first. Searching the list told me other
people are having this problem too.
I have created a class which inherits popen2.Popen3.
The problem is that popen2.Popen3 does not define a __del__
method to handle proper closing of the pipes or destruction of
the process. So I created one in my class:

Popen3 provides the method poll() which returns the exit status of the
child process if it has finished or -1 if the process is still running.
Here is the code:
def poll(self):
"""Return the exit status of the child process if it has finished,
or -1 if it hasn't finished yet."""
if self.sts < 0:
try:
pid, sts = os.waitpid(self.pid, os.WNOHANG)

I've written a couple of apps that required
running a command and grabbing the output,
and I've found the existing interfaces problematic for this.
I think the proliferation of functions and classes
in the popen2 module illustrates the problem
(popen2.{popen2,popen3,popen4,Popen3,Popen4})
Now if I want to read both stdout and stderr
seperately then it's awkward to say the least
to implement that without deadlocking using

Hello,
I use popen2.Popen4 and I experienced problems with it. Let me show you with
an example. The following script is called "lines" (it prints lines of
'X'):

#!/usr/bin/env python
import sys

I am running an external command and I need to know a) when it is done
and b) what it wrote to both stdout and stderr. After a little
searching, I found the popen2 module and used the Popen3 class. I'm
having trouble with it hanging, though.
Here is a very well put (by someone else) posting that describes some
background:

Hi,
I have a problem with a curl request and running it under popen2.
If I run this request from the command line:
curl -i http://www.yahoo.com/test --stderr errfile
(also tried redirecting stdderr to a file 2>, nothing) the file errfile
is empty indicating no error with the request.
However, when I do something similar in python:

I start a process in my application with popen2.popen3('MyOtherProcess').
That's ok, but what can I do if the other process is running ?
Can I fetch some information and start with that ?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
