Just installed J2RE 1.4.2 on a Linux server. I am very
knew to the POSIX world.
I couldn't dig-up much in the docs or via google about
the following:
1 - Is there a standard way to make sure users (all, or
some) can "reach" java? eg one could presumably create
a java.sh or aliases ... Where is the standard Linux
directory to put such a script (and why)?

I have been developing a Python program with two intercommunicating
(using sockets) parts, one of which runs on a desktop and the other on
a PDA. For ease of development, I developed them both on a desktop.
Now that I have them working on the desktop, I need to move the part
destined for a PDA to a PDA. I had originally planned to use a Sharp
Zaurus because it runs Linux (the OS of my desktop system) and I had
found a Python port that...

Apologies if this isn't news here - I've been too busy this last week
or so for even skimming the traffic here, in part because I've been
messing around with Ubuntu's preview release on a spare machine... and,
of course, spending time on their very busy mailing list. :-) I didn't
find any mention of Ubuntu in a quick scan of recent messages, so...
Ubuntu is a Linux distribution that starts with the breadth of Debian
and adds regular...

So, I've written my first GUI app in python. I've turned it into a
binary .exe and .app that runs on Windows and Mac respectively, but on
my Linux box, where I wrote the thing, I still have to drop to the
command line and ./myscript.py. What can I do to make it a "click and
run" sort of application in KDE or Gnome on Linux?

hello all,
I am stuck with a strange requirement.
I need a library that can help me display a pdf file as a report and
also want a way to print the same pdf file in a platform independent
way.
if that's not possible then I at least need the code for useing some
library for connecting to acrobat reader and giving the print command
on windows and some thing similar on ubuntu linux.
the problem is that I want to display reports in my...

I've been installing Python and its supporting packages on
a dedicated server with Fedora Core 6 for about a day now.
This is a standard dedicated rackmount server in a colocation
facility, controlled via Plesk control panel, and turned over
to me with Fedora Core 6 in an empty state. This is the
standard way you get a server in a colo today.
Bringing Python up in this completely clean environment is
a huge hassle, and it doesn't...

Hi all,
I have gone through the process of installing DB2 UDBv9 Express-C in
my local linux environment. I am used to having icon placed on my
Desktop or taskbar for easy access to (db2cc) Control Center. After
installation, how then can I get access to DB2? How can I place a
desktop icon in linux for easy access to DB2?
Also, I will like to know how I can make DB2 control center in my
windows environment detect the recent DB2...

Hello all,
I am attempting to execute an automated test (written in Python) via
cron. I have to check the HOSTNAME variable as part of the test, oddly
under cron the HOSTNAME environment variable is not in the os.environ
dictionary. I know that cron runs in a subshell that does not have all
of the normally set environment variables. HOSTNAME is not one of those
variables, it is set even in cron's subshell. Why doesn't python get...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
