PythonDSS: A suggestion for a book and accompanying software distribution

I think there should be a good market for a Python book that focuses
on the use of Python for decision support work, especially financial
decison support which will include financial data warehouse building,
data analysis, modelling and reporting/visualisation. It should be
"how to" book and not a rehash of existing Python language books. The
book should be accompanied by a Python distribution that includes a
core set of modules that covers the areas relevant to decsion support
systems - similar to what Enthought (www.enthought.com) does with
their Python (Enthought Edition) whose focus though is on scientific
computing.

Obviously, a PythonDSS book will be a long time coming. In the
meanhwile, perhaps those interested could suggest through this
newsgroup, what are the "best of breed" modules to include in the
proposed PythonDSS. Obvious candidates for inclusion would include:
Numarray, Excel connectivity (pyXLWriter?), a relational data base
(?), OLAP-type facility (PyTables?), ReportLab, etc.

I am just starting this "appointment book" java program and would appreciate some basis direction. I do not expect anyone to write the code for me but i would like opinions on how to best handle the situation. Specifically should i use <arraylist> or a hashtable or is these a better way? Thank you all in advance. here is the assignment... sorry if it is too long. In this assignment you will demonstrate your understanding of designing with...

Hello, Thanks for looking at my post and hopefully having an answer or at least a suggestion to my problem. I currently work at a financial planning office that deals with many clients and accounts. Each client may have multiple accounts such as an individual, IRA, and possibly a joint tenant account. Each one of these accounts for the particular client is contained in a 'Portfolio'. For example, Joe Smith may have 3 accounts: Joe Smith...

I'm looking to write a C# book fairly soon, and the publisher I've approached wants me to do a bit of market research to find out what people like and don't like in this kind of book. I've read loads of reviews of best-selling books on Amazon, so I've got some ideas from there, but I'd be very interested in hearing what you all think makes a good C# book. I'm interested primarily in stylistic things - how light-hearted, what kind of...

I'm getting this, after upgrading from 2000 to 2005. Replication-Replication Distribution Subsystem: agent (null) failed. The subscription to publication '(null)' has expired or does not exist. The only suggestions I've seen are to dump all subscriptions. Since we have several dozen publications to several servers, is there a decent way to script it all out, if that's the only suggestion?

Dear All, In my opinion, there are so many possible designs for a project, even small up to a class. How can I know which one is better? Is there any important point I should consider in the design? What I should do first for a large project? Design the whole system? or Start a small workable version and then expand? I really need your kind suggestion.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
