shelve/bsddb broken in Python 2.3.3 (SuSe 9.1)?

Has anybody gotten shelve to work under SuSE 9.1?

I have SuSe 9.1, Python 2.3.3.85, db 4.2.52, and bsddb3-4.2.4.

When I try to create a shelve, I get errors galore, Here's the traceback:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<pyshell#1 7>", line 1, in -toplevel-
d=shelve.open(' mydbm',flag='c' )
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/shelve.py", line 231, in open
return DbfilenameShelf (filename, flag, protocol, writeback, binary)
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/shelve.py", line 212, in __init__
Shelf.__init__( self, anydbm.open(fil ename, flag), protocol, writeback,
binary)
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/anydbm.py", line 83, in open
return mod.open(file, flag, mode)
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/dbhash.py", line 16, in open
return bsddb.hashopen( file, flag, mode)
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/bsddb/__init__.py", line 192, in hashopen
d.open(file, db.DB_HASH, flags, mode)
DBError: (38, 'Function not implemented -- process-private: unable to
initialize environment lock: Function not implemented')'

TIA,

Hello, I'm using shelve module in python 2.3 and I found that it does a very odd thing, at least very unexpected to me. It seems that the data of a replaced or deleted key stays in filename.dat file. Example: >>> d = *1000 >>> from shelve import *

Hi! I want to use shelve to store lists which are indexed by an integer key. The keys are not concurrent or anything, they are just defined as integer values. However, shelve complains that I cannot have integer keys. Here's the error: >>> d Traceback (most recent call last): File "<input>", line 1, in ? File "E:\Python23\lib\shelve.py",...

Hi, I'm not a Win ME fan myself (I'm a Mac user), but I'm here in Thailand developing software for special-needs kids, and the test PC in my home office is a Win ME machine (sigh). So when I ported my Python program today to the PC, it quickly crashed. Everything seems to work except for shelve. Using the latest version of Python (2.5.1),...

I have some old "shelve" databases created in Python 2.2 that use the old bsddb format, whereas the version of Python 2.4 installed by my web hosting service doesn't have bsddb available at all (or at least, it has, but probably not linked properly to the more recent Sleepy Cat versions of the Berkeley DB - it fails to import _bsddb). ...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows.
