Hi all,
I'm trying to write an app to monitor an IIS server, by connecting and
getting a page via httplib. the problem seems to be when IIS (or ASP) dies
httplib does not always return and sometimes I'm left with an app that
hangs. what is the best way to handle this ?
thanks,
rich.

How can I set httplib timeout for httplib.request() ?
httplib.request timeouts after 3:10 with "socket" timeout error message.
I found socket.settimeout() and I believe there is a way to add
".settimeout()" function to httplib without hacking httplib source.
Is it possible?

I have the following problem with HTTPResponse:
import httplib #, select

connection = httplib.HTTPConnection(host)
connection.connect()
connection.request('GET', url)
response = connection.getresponse()
# print response.status, response.reason gives '200 OK'
# ready = select.select(,,, 5.0) # no fileno() method

Hi.
I'm having some problems with code based directly on the following
httplib documentation code:
http://www.zvon.org/other/python/doc21/lib/httplib-examples.html
I've included the code and traceback at the end of this post.
The odd thing is, using DEPRECATED FUNCTIONS to perform the same
function works fine!

I am attempting to use a HEAD request against Amazon S3 to check
whether a file exists or not and if it does parse the md5 hash from
the ETag in the response to verify the contents of the file so as to
save on bandwidth of uploading files when it is not necessary.
If the file exist, the HEAD works as expected and I get valid headers
back that I can parse and pull the ETag out of the dictionary using
getheader('ETag') (using the slice to...

Hi,
I am using a HTTPS connection to invoke a cgi-script. I want to use a
timeout between the sending the request and receiving the response, so
what I want to do is when the request is send, the client should wait
for a specified time, drop the connection and then do some thing
else.
I found out that the timout should work on HTTPS connection (python
2.5), and thus tried to use it, but that does not seems to work. The

Seems like I am missing something. Shouldn't one be able to specify a time out on an HTTPConnection attempt? By default Python socket has no timeout (out of curiosity anyone know the history of this choice as it seems so prone to create problems) so I would expect to see one on the client's of socket. Is my only option to set the default timeout in the sockets module?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
