Has anyone used decompyle recently?

I am trying to reconstruct Python source files from an application I
generated from py2exe. I accidentally deleted the sources for the app,
but the py2exe-generated executable contains .pyc files for all the
sources. I would love to be able to reverse engineer the .pyc files
back to the source.

I did find some mention in this group of a utility called decompyle,
and I tried downloading the goodies from
http://www.crazy-compilers.com/decompyle/.

Neither version of decompyle seems to work. The 0.6 version can't
handle Python 2.2 compiled code, and the installer for the 2.2beta1
fails on Windows.

Has anyone out there been able to decompile 2.2 compiled code? I
guess I could try to modify the source for decompyle 0.6 to work with
Python 2.2, but since I have zero experience with Python compilation
internals, that could be a tough slope to climb.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi. I've added Python 2.3 support to decompyle. All I did was to add the new header ID of .pyc files and to remove some obsolete op-codes (which are not present in opcode.py). There are files which it can't decompile but it usually works. If you're interested you can download it here: http://adal.eu.org/decompyle.php

Hi. If I try to use decompyle (decompyle-2.3) for pyc-files < version 2.0, I get an error with marshal_20 (ImportError: dynamic module does not define init function (initmarshal_20) ). marshal_20 was compiled to a so-file using gcc. Does anybody know where this error could come from and how to solve it? Thanks,

Ironically enough - the decompyle module will not compile on my machine. I am using Python 2.2 and MSVC7 (i.e. .NET). However it tells me there is an undefined external as follows: "marshal_22_for_20.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol initdecompyle/marshal_20" I am writing code for Poser 6 (which has not as yet updated to the latest Python) and have just lost a substantial chunk of code - part of which being an algorithm...

Hello all. Quick question for anyone that has used RawMouse / RawInputMouse (and for anyone that hasn't used it.. look here: http://link.mywwwserver.com/~jstookey/arcade/rawmouse/). RawMouse is basically a program for managing multiple mouses independently but connected to the same machine using MAME. It's been ported to C# recently enough and having finally gotten it to read

Decompilation is the process of recovering human readable source code from a program executable. Many decompilers exist for Java and .NET as the program executables (class files) maintain much of the information found in the source code. This is not true for machine code executables however. In recent years decompilation for machine code has moved from the domain of crackpots and academic hopefuls to a number of real technologies that...

Has anyone used PyPar ( http://datamining.anu.edu.au/~ole/pypar/ ) recently? I _do_ want to do MPI (not BSP) but I don't need any advanced MPI things... and PyPar seemed just up my ally... but alas it doesn't compile: ########### python setup.py --prefix=$MY_PREFIX cc: unrecognized option '-showme'

In VS05, I've created a menu for the application and would like to insert a 'most recently used' item to hold, of course, the most recently used items that this application is associated with. However, it is not clear to me how this should be done. Would someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction? Thanks. -- Richard Lewis Haggard www.Haggard-And-Associates.com

Hallöchen! Due to erroneous use of my VCS, I lost my revision of yesterday. All I have are the pyc v2.5 files. Unfortunately, decompyle can only handle v2.3. Can one convert this, e.g. by de-assembling, manual tweaking, and re-assembling? The result must not be perfect since I still have most content of the files. Tschö, Torsten.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
