What is an RT index?

Hi, could you help me? I am reading documentation on RelOptInfo in version
7.3.4 and have come across "RT indexes" in the explanation. Could you tell
me what they are? They are mentioned in file src/include/nodes/relation.h in
version 7.3.4. They seem to be some kind of unique identifiers of relations,
but I have not been able to find a reference to them in PostgreSQL
documentation.

Many thanks,

Rada

"rangetable indexes", that is, the integer position numbers of different
relations' entries in the Query's rtable list.
They seem to be some kind of unique identifiers of relations,

Unique only within the context of a given query. For example,

select * from a join b on (a.f1 = b.f2)

will create RTEs (range table entries, struct RangeTblEntry) for
a, b, and their join. Because the RTEs will be added to the rtable list
in that order, they will have RT indexes 1, 2, 3 respectively in this
query.

There are various places in the optimizer code that use "relid" to mean
the same thing as "RT index". Outside the optimizer, "relid" more often
means a relation's OID, which is not the same thing at all.

regards, tom lane

Hello, I have a rather large (100+ MB) FASTA file from which I need to access records in a random order. The FASTA format is a standard format for storing molecular biological sequences. Each record contains a header line for describing the sequence that begins with a '>' (right-angle bracket) followed by lines that contain the actual sequence data. Three example FASTA records are below: >CW127_A01...

Hi, I was going through this reference code and playing around with it. The code (shown below) shows a class that represents a stack of string pointers In the code below in particular in the pop function, the code works when I set stack=0 but when I say delete stack the code compiles but does not execute -I am only trying to "delete stack" after I have copied the relevant data pointed by it into variable "rv", so why is this program...

I ran into a table that is used a lot. Well less than 100,000 records. Maybe not a lot of records but i believe this table is used often. The table has 26 fields, 9 indexes but no Primary Key at all! There are no table relationships defined in this database, no Natural keys, only Surrogate keys in the database. 1- Maybe an odd question but is it normal to have 1/3 of the table's fields as indexes? Is this a valid question or it really

I'm trying to get to the bottom of a problem I've been having with publishing a freebie website. I'm using a program called WebEasy. Using a very simple site upload as an example, in this case a picture of a couple of antique chairs. I paste a single .jpg image, and save the web page file, which gets saved as an .alb file. Then, after choosing the "build website" function, the following files are found in the folder for the website:

I just inherited a Java application with a fairly complex data model that does not yet have any indexes except those on primary keys. It is still in development and before I get to do any performance testing I want to put some default indexes on it. I realize that this a very vague request but it's better than nothing so I want to start with those that are generally a good idea and then tune those areas that require more fine grained...

I have a situation where an app writes data of various types (primitives and objects) into a single dimensional array of objects. (This array eventually becomes a row in a data table, but that's another story.) The data is written once and then read many times. Each primitive read requires unboxing. The data reads are critical to overall app performance. In the hopes of improving performance, we have tried to find a way to avoid the...

Yes, I need to store some values in an array type collection object that can hold 3 or more parameters per index. I have looked at the collection object, hashtable object and would prefer not to hassel with a multi-dimensional array. Is there such an object in VB.Net? Dim obj As someCollectionObj obj.Add("parmA1", "parmA2", "parmA3") obj.Add("parmB1", "parmB2", "parmB3") ....

Hello, World! Reading this group for some time I came to the conclusion that people here are split into several fractions regarding size_t, including, but not limited to, * size_t is the right thing to use for every var that holds the number of or size in bytes of things. * size_t should only be used when dealing with library functions.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
