if you have DBD::Pg and DBI, check out their respective
manpages. that's the easy way to get into postgres from perl.

as far as having perl available from inside postgres, check out
the plperl module/package/thingie.

so you're looking for either

DBD::Pg and DBI
or
plperl (on debian, it's in package libpgperl)
or
both. :)

Now, why would I like to learn Python: because of IronPython port to CLR. Perl port to CLR doesn't seem to be coming soon. First Perl6 for Parrot has to be written, and then other backends.. What's the easiest way of learning python knowing perl? Is there somewhere a 'how-to' cookbook with parallel examples of frequent idioms in perl and python? And most important thing, how does Python deal with database connectivity? Is there a...

I'm new to Postgres, and getting nowhere with a PL/Perl trigger that I'm trying to write - hopefully, someone can give me some insight into what I'm doing wrong. My trigger is designed to reformat / standardize phone numbers and it looks like this: CREATE or REPLACE FUNCTION fixphone() RETURNS trigger AS $$ $number .= $_TD->{new}{phone}; $number =~ s/(-|\.|\(|\)| )//g; $number .= substr($number,0,3) . "." .

Running a perl script against my dev server (pg 7.3.4) that currently runs fine on the production server. And for some reason Pg always seems to hang during the process (see below for Top print out). This happens randomily throughout the script and can be on a SELECT, INSERT, or UPDATE statement, but doesn't cause the Pg server to go down (which is good). Any suggestions on where to start looking? Perl version 5.6.1

Greetings, I'm trying to write a pl/perl function that will return multiple rows. I've looked all over the web and only found vague references as to how to do this (some said it was possible, and some said it wasn't but it was for older versions of Postgres). Basically I would *love* to be able to do something like this: SELECT some_id

Hi, all. I read that the "--with-perl" option "Build the PL/Perl server-side language". Does that mean the the switch is necessary to connect to the PostgreSQL database if you are using a perl program? It seems to me that it is only for allowing the use of perl *inside* of postgres and if one is just using perl programs to access the database from the outside this switch is not necessary. I want to make sure I give the applications...

I'm having some odd issues, but I'm not sure exactly the cause of them, but postgres is the component in the system that is throwing the errors, so I thought I'd start here. I have built a web application that uses postgres (7.3.2) as its backend, with the front being an Apache2/mod_perl solution. I've printed what I think the relevant versions are below. Anway, DBD::Pg throws random errors into my logs, along the lines of what is...

Hi Postgres users, I wonder to know if it is possible to launch a Perl program or a unix comand in a trigger function. I have tried to do that in a C trigger developed with the SPI function. But my examples does not work and i don't have any error messages in the postgres logfile. So, i ask you your opinion and an example of code if your trigger works. Regards,

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
