recommendation for a simple but powerful e-commerce solution

Hi Folk

I have been looking at oscommerce and zencart, because I would like to use a
PHP e-commerce solution.

Does any of you have any recommendations? I know there are lots out there,
but I am looking for one who just takes care of the basics. That is, I
would like to be in control of the look and feel.

OR, would you recommend that I write my own. I have done this for
www.antlervelvet.co.nz, but I see that some of the functionality of
oscommerce, etc... would take ages to develop and there is no need in this
world to reinvent the wheel.

Look forward to your comments
