Accessing files and reading data

I wanted to make a script in which the user enters a filename into the <STDIN>
once the file is read it supplies details of the file. lines, paragraphs, and characters.
But im stumpt.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with Miller. If you could post the code you are working on (as far as you have gotten so far), we can take a look at it and point you in the right direction.
