Hi. Does anyone know if there's an equivalent of Perl's file::find
module in Python? It traverses a directory. I've googled extensively and
checked this newsgroup and can't find anything like it for Python.
I'd be using it in Linux to regularly search for files with a script. Is
this a good application for Python or does Perl have more functionality
for quick & simple scripting in Linux?
Thanks.

I'm adding a thread for comments on Gerrit Holl's pre-pep, which

Frankly, I like the idea. It's about time that all of the file
and directory stuff in the os module got objectified
properly (or at least with some semblance of OO propriety!)
In the issues section:

This seems like a simple thing, but I can't find anything in the "Perl
Cookbook" or the online Perl docs to answer this.
When a script runs from my host's server, the working directory
doesn't appear to be the directory the script is located in. (They
have Perl running under IIS, I don't know what versions).
I tried File::Spec->curdir() , but it just returns ".", which is
accurate, but not very helpful.

I'm writing a script to process a directory tree of images.  In each
directory, I need to process each image and generate an HTML file listing
all of the images and links to the subdirectories.
Just about every source I can find on the 'net for processing subdirectories
points you at Find::Find.  However, I'm trying to do something like this:
enter directory
open INDEX, ".\index.html"
print INDEX HTMLheader

Split File Fullpath Into Parts
Xah Lee, 20051016
Often, we are given a file fullpath and we need to split it into the
directory name and file name. The file name is often split into a core
part and a extension part. For example:
'/Users/t/web/perl-python/I_Love_You.html'

hey guys
Is there a builtin/standard install method in python for retrieving or
finding out an image's dimensions?
A quick google found me this:
http://www.pythonware.com/library/pil/handbook/introduction.htm
but it looks like it is something I will need to install - I'd like to
be able to pass my script around to people without them needing any

OS using: Linux(core 1), Solaris (5.6 to 5.8), Unix
Perl version: v5.8.5
I need to find the path or alias that the user used to execute the program with (aka $0), just like the built-in shell commands which or where, but using Perl.
Now if I just want the path I have found many ways to do that using things like:
use Cwd qw(realpath);
my $exe_path = realpath($0);
print "\nYou are executing $exe_path.\n";

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
