Perl: retrieve process info from different platforms

1 New Member
I am working on a script that will retrieve process info from a Linux, a Windows, a Suse and a Solaris hosts.

I run this script from a RedHat 2.6 machine. The first problem I have is how to get process info from a Windows XP host. There are only two ways to do it:
- directly execute a script from the RedHat machine, get the process info remotely
- telnet to the WinXP host and get process info locally then return back a temp file with all the info

for the first solution, I need to install Win32:IsWinNT, Win32, Win32::Process: :Info on the RedHat 2.6 hosts. However, the cpan seems couldn't find the Win32::IsWinNT module

> # perl -MCPAN -e 'install Win32::IsWinNT'
CPAN: Storable loaded ok
Going to read /root/.cpan/Metadata
Database was generated on Mon, 27 Jun 2005 05:58:10 GMT
Warning: Cannot install Win32::IsWinNT, don't know what it is.
Try the command

i /Win32::IsWinNT/

to find objects with matching identifiers.

Can I install those windows modules on a RedHat host? I did find out the cpan do test those windows modules on Linux platforms.

Any ideas? Thanks.

By Searching CPAN, http://search.cpan.org/search?query=Wi n32::IsWinNT, I discovered that IsWinNT() is a function of the package Win32.

Try this instead:

perl -MCPAN -e 'install Win32'

At my work we are in the process of building a tool to test an XML based API. Basically, XML in and XML out over http. Currently, there are two engines that do all of the schema validations, xml diffs, sending/receiving, etc. One of these engines in implemented in C# and the other in Java. Now the choice comes down to which scripting language we choose (Perl, Python or Jython) to tie into one of these engines. The scripting language...

I would like to run the same script on two different platforms. The directory in which the script(s) will be stored is common to the two platforms. (I see the same directory contents regardless of which platform I use to access the directory.) Platform 1: perl is installed in /tps/bin/perl. CPAN modules are available Perl is also installed in /usr/bin/perl Platform 1, but the modules are not accessible with this version. Platform...

So, I download the latest "stable" tar for perl (5.8.7) and try to compile it on the Solaris 8 (SPARC) box that I administrate. I try all sorts of different switches, but I can't get it to compile. I need it to be compiled with threads. Anyone have any wisdom on how best to do this? Here's a transcript of my latest attempt. It's long; you might want to skip to the bottom, where I try "make" and the fatal errors start happening.

I may be involved in a data migration project involving databases and creating XML feeds. Our site is PHP based, so I imagine the team might suggest PHP, but I had a look at the PHP documentation for one of the Pear modules for creating XML and it didn't look like much. I've used Perl XML:Twig and I have the impression that there is more Perl stuff available as well as the Perl stuff being well documented as I have a Perl DBI book, a Perl...

Note: You may skip to the end of the article if all you want is the perl code. Introduction Uploading files from a local computer to a remote web server has many useful purposes, the most obvious of which is the sharing of files. For example, you upload images to a server to share them with other people over the Internet. Perl comes ready equipped for uploading files via the CGI.pm module, which has long been a core module and allows users...

Hi, I am attempting to process a proprietary formatted file into flat csv for the purpose of bcp'ing into a SQL Server 2005 install. I tried writing a processor in Perl that "works" except that the BCP tool in windows just does not like the file, it gives me the "Unexpected EOF...." error that is usually associated with misaligned fields. I am pretty sure the cause of this is the end of line character differences between platforms. I...

Note: You may skip to the end of the article if all you want is the perl code. Introduction Many websites have a form or a link you can use to download a file. You click a form button or click on a link and after a moment or two a file download dialog box pops-up in your web browser and prompts you for some instructions, such as “open” or “save“. I’m going to show you how to do that using a perl script. What You Need Any recent...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
