How to install 8i ODBC drivers into XP pro

2 New Member
My secretaries HD crashed - bummer. I got a new HD running XP pro with SP3. I have installed 8i client using the OUI (at first I had to rename symcjit.dll to symcjit_old.dll ). All the components appeared to install.

I used OUI to install the 8i ODBC drivers but when I go to
ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS/DATA SOURCES >>>SYSTEM DNS tab
and try to add the 8i ODBC driver set it does not appear in the list

Using Oracle's KB I found a list of all the files created by the OUI when it installs the drivers - I tracked the existence of these files in Windows and Oracle subdirectories and they are there.

Is there another way I can get this driver set to appear in the list by going through some 'backdoor' ?

I fixed it using another XP pro system on our network.
I went to that PC and copied the registry entry for ODBC - took that to the non-functional PC and imported that registry component.
POOF - the Oracle 8i ODBC drivers appeared in the drop down list and were selectable, I picked them and instantly my application was able to see the Oracle DB on our network.

OK, I had a problem that I've now fixed but I can't really understand what was causing it in the first place. I have an intranet site that uses basic authentication to allow users to view and update information from an Oracle DB (ver 8.1.6 -- ancient, I know). Anyway, the site worked fine as long as the machine accessing the ASP page was running Win 2k but when an XP machine tried to view the page, the client got an error: Microsoft...

Hi I have a Visual Basic application that uses ADO to access an Oracle database. I have the latest 9.x ODBC drivers installed, and SQL*Plus tells me I'm looking at Oracle 8i release 8.1.7.4.1 through an Oracle client version 9.2.0.1.0. I'm assuming that these should be compatible... The application has, until now, been running on the MS ODBC drivers for Oracle, but we'd like to get away from using LONGs, and use the

hello, i want to replicate some updates in a db2 table in mainframe to a Oracle database in Unix box. I'm thinking in use triggers and ODBC to connect to Oracle database. The cost of the solution is a serious restriction (replication is discarded due license cost). are ODBC drivers part of the DB2 standard distribution or extra feature ? thanks in advance for the help Haroldo --

Hi I'm running Windows 2000 and Office 2003. I want to copy tables from an unknown database format into Access 2.0 and I could do it quite easily if it weren't for the fact that recent ODBC-drivers aren't capable of writing into an Access 2.0 database (only reading). I do have the old Access 2.0 disks including odbc-driver, but it doesn't install on my machine (probably because the newer ones are installed...). And yes, I know that...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
