Oracle 8i Cursors via JDBC

Does anybody have samples of how to use JDBC calls to work with a
cursor on Oracle 8i? Can it even be done?

I'd like to be able to do something like:

String sql = "DECLARE CURSOR my_cursor FOR SELECT name,id FROM
name_tbl";
statement.execu te(sql); (executeQuery? executeUpdate?)
....
while(...)
{
String query = "FOR 100 FETCH my_cursor";
ResultSet rs = statement.execu teQuery(query);
// process up to 100 rows in another loop and then fetch 100 more
// how do I know when the cursor has run out of rows versus just
// the ResultSet running out of its rows (do I just try again as
long
// as I get 100 rows in ResultSet or is there something else that
tells me?
}

Thanks,
David

I am trying to implement Oracle connection pooling for the following code, which was written by someone else. Here is my main question -- this java file creates code that is executed every hour, but once per week, the oracle server is brought down for backup. At that time, I get an error that looks like I have the wrong credentials for the database. For every subsequent attempt to run the hourly process, I am getting a broken pipe error,...

I am trying to implement cursors using JDBC connector version 7.1b5 (postgresql-7.1b5.jar), but can't get it to work. Could anybody suggest the proper way to do it, or even some source code? I am stuck with this version and can't change it.

Hi, I've been trying for ages to connect to my Oracle 9.2.0 database from Java. I am attempting to create a thin connection. The necessary drivers were installed with the database and I have all the relevant files under the folder C:\oracle\ora92\jdbc\lib Initially I had JDK 6 downloaded from Sun's website, but I didn't think it would be compatible with the older database, so I then replaced that with SDK 1.4.

ALL DDL does a commit. Hence Drop Table movies; issues a commit. True you don't issue a commit and the driver does not issue a commit, but the server does for all DDL. That is probably where your commit is coming from. Jim -- Replace part of the email address: kennedy-down_with_spammers@attbi.com with family. Remove the negative part, keep the minus sign. You can figure it out.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
