Hi again,

when trying to create an new database with Database Configuration
Assistant, i'm getting "ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve
SERVICE_NAME".

this is my listener.ora:

# LISTENER.ORA Network Configuration File: listener.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = freudenspender) (PORT = 1521))
)

my sqlnet.ora:

# SQLNET.ORA Network Configuration File: sqlnet.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

SQLNET.AUTHENTI CATION_SERVICES = (NTS)

NAMES.DIRECTORY _PATH= (TNSNAMES)

and finally, this is my tnsnames.ora:

# TNSNAMES.ORA Network Configuration File: tnsnames.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

ORA9 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = freudenspender) (PORT = 1521))
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = ora9)
(INSTANCE_NAME = fsp)
)
)

a call of "lsnrctl status" states:

Verbindung mit (DESCRIPTION=(A DDRESS=(PROTOCO L=TCP)(HOST=fre udenspender)(PO RT=15
21))) wird aufgebaut
STATUS des LISTENER
------------------------
Alias LISTENER
Startdatum 22-JUN-2003 15:33:50
Uptime 1 Tage 3 Std. 22 Min. 10 Sek.
Trace-Ebene off
Sicherheit OFF
SNMP OFF

so, i suppose, there must be a configuration problem in tnsnames.ora.

again, any hints?
TIA,
Michael
MIchael

I'm using OCI on Mac OS X and I've run into a strange problem with my TNSNAMES.ORA file. My TNSNAMES.ORA file has one entry INV4II and it works fine. However, it will only work if that is the name of the entry. If I use any other name for that entry I get the dreaded ORA-12154. For example: TNSNAMES.ORA -> INV4II Application -> INV4II :: works fine TNSNAMES.ORA -> INV4DEV Application -> INV4DEV :: ORA-12154 TNSNAMES.ORA -> INV4DEV...

Dear all, We use TCP/IP for our Oracle networking to the database server but I see 2 formats for specifying the definition of a connection string of a database in tnsnames.ora. format 1: testdb = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myhost)(PORT = 1521))

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
