Help!! Any non-RAC high-availability experiences with Oracle9 ??

Hi - we are upgrading our old Oracle7.3.4 environment to Oracle9. Our
current HACMP environment consists of two AIX4.3.3 servers (64-bit)
configured as primary and secondary. We have the Oracle 7.3.4
products (binaries) and database files (dbf's, control files, redo
logs) on shared twin-tailed non-concurrent disk.

When the primary node fails the HACMP software fires up the secondary
node, and mounts the filesystems, starts the database which in turn
does its crash recovery redo log thing if required. This
configuration has worked well for the last 7 years or so. We want to
duplicate this configuration with Oracle9.

Does anyone else have experience configuration a similiar
standby-failover environment with Oracle9? And do you know if Oracle
supports this approach? We haven't had much luck finding any specific
documentation from Oracle on this (yes we've RTFM'ed...a few times!).
So any links to docs muchly appreciated.

thanks

There should be no reason whatsoever why not. What is the
problem in telling HACMP to do this with one version
of Oracle or another? The whole thing is controlled
by shell scrips, the only thing you may have to change
is that now you start Oracle via SQL*Plus instead of
via Server Manager. Talk to IBM, they should be able
to tell you how to make the change to the scripts.
And do you know if Oracle
supports this approach?
It's not an issue if Oracle "supports" it or not.
HACMP is an IBM product and that's where you should be
looking. Not into Oracle.

Not surprised. You expect to see HACMP documented by
Oracle? ;)
So any links to docs muchly appreciated.

I'd start by giving IBM a call?

I'm looking for "real life" experiences of companies running DB2 in an 24x7 OLTP environment. Seems like most folks are using DB2 for DSS applications, rather than OLTP. If your DB2 production environment meets the following criteria, I'd love to hear from you: 1. Using DB2 as an OLTP database 2. Using DB2 via custom apps (not 3rd party apps like Peoplesoft etc.) 3. DB2 database instance >300GB 4. Have used DB2 for at least 1 year,...

Hi all, I am cramming for an technical interview about C++ and programming... I believe there will be problems on data-structures and algorithms... could anybody recommend some online resources/references/websites so that I can find summary sheet about the confusing points of C++ and typical storage/time complexity of common data structures and common algorithms? I do have those big textbooks but I found they don't provide a fast...

All, In studying Python, I have predictably run across quite a bit of talk about the GIL and threading in Python. As my day job, I work with a (mostly Java) application that is heavily threaded. As such our application takes good advantage of multiple processors and we can often scale through simply adding processing power to a server. I was hoping for some experiences that some of you on the list may have had in dealing with Python in a...

Greetings: I'm involved in migrating an existing COM app (uses VB6, O8 Client, connecting to Oracle7 DB), to a new environment. Our new environment will use the same code (hopefully), and Oracle9 client connecting to an Oracle10 instance. The existing production app has no issues with connection pooling, typically running between 5 and 8 db connections to service about 1000 clients. However, the new environment is not pooling correctly,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
