hello all... got a bit of an issue going. i recently purchased a new laptop running vista, everything running swell. i also purchased a new router, as the router given to me by bt was not smart enough to connect through to work (did not support vpn tunnel passthrough etc), so i set up the router with a class A address (we need this to connect through to work), configured the router, and it was happy enough. the vista laptop connects fine through wireless. if i plug a network cable into the vista laptop, away it goes, connects fine. however, if i connect my old desktop with a network cable (the same cable tested with the laptop), the desktop retrieves it correct ip settings, however, it cannot access the internet, it just says along the status bar looking www.whatever.com, does this for about 1 minute, then times out, as expected. i tried my other desktop, no problem, retrieves the ip settings, does whatever it wants. here is the confusing part, not only does the desktop retrieve its correct ip settings, it also allows desktop2 and vistalaptop to connect to desktop, using either computer name, or by ip address. however, if i tried to ping desktop2 or vista laptop it says "destination specified is invalid." it also says this when i try to ping the router, and also when i try to telnet to the router. i have reset the ip stack, and reinstalled tcp\ip, and i am at a complete loss, event viewer, device manager, all showing zilch!!!!! im ready to just go buy a new network card, but before i do, any techies out there have any ideas???? a BIG THANK YOU in advance :)
