Are there any problems with multiple user access to the same Access
database on a shared network drive? I have 'shared' chosen for
'default open mode'. As for the record locking properties, I selected
'edited record' for default record locking; also, 'Open databases
using record-level locking' is checked.
We seemed to experience difficulties in this office - just once so
far, I think - with more than one user accessing the database on a
network drive. However, I'm not sure if this was a one-time network
glitch or might turn out to be a recurrent problem.
Also, I saw in posts such as
http://dbforums.com/arch/106/2003/8/851472 that users have to be in
the same security .mdw file for record locking to work. I'm not sure
exactly what an .mdw file is, but that seems to be a network
administration/server configuration user involving user groups.
(However, that may be a different issue since that's a situation where
multiple users can access the database when they supposedly are unable
to, given the database record-locking properties. We're experiencing a
different issue: the record-locking properties are set for multiple
users to access the database, but we seem to be experiencing
difficulties with more than one user accessing the database at the
same time.)
