Outgrown current backup system

178 New Member
Hi,

Currently I am using yosemite software and 180gb tapes to backup my system. 3 monthly, 3 weekly and 4 daily tapes. Now I have outgrown this capacity and need an alternative solution. I don't like the thought of using online backup as it would take forever to get all this data backed up. I am toying with the idea of using 500gb portable hard drive instead. Has anyone a better solution or know if portable hard drives are a suitable solution?

Thanks in advance

Well, what are your goals in the backup? Are you just looking to capture specific files, or do you want full disk images?

I just took over DBA responsibilities for an Oracle 8i database running on Linux. Although I've been working with relational databases for some time, I'm a bit green on Oracle so forgive me. My first task was to implement a backup strategy (currently there is none). I did a great deal of research both on this board and using the Oracle Press 8i handbook. I made a cold backup (with oracle shutdown) and sucessfully moved it from my...

I am having a problem with a regular backup of an SQL Server (MSDE 2000) database to a local drive. I initiate the backup once a week, by issuing the required T-SQL, via ADO. In this case, the T-SQL is: BACKUP DATABASE GPRS_Dimensioning_Archive TO local_backup WITH RETAINDAYS=21, NAME='GDA_20040706' Note that "local_backup" is a file sitting on the same physical drive as the database itself, and has > 80 GB free. It is not a RAID...

Friends, I have read DB2/UDB 8.x 'RESTORE DATABASE Command', with my 'limited' knowledge & skill. I think it should address my concern, but I want advice/ opinion / experience and any care I must take to restore DB2/UDB 8.x database 64 to 32 bit). (1) Due to hardware limitaion I can not have 64 bit DB2/UDB 8 on AIX 4.3.3 host. Let us call this as host vhost32. I can migrate 7.2EE FP11 32bit to 8.x 32 bit on vhost32. This is my test...

I have taken a backup of a production database and copied it to a test server. I'm attempting to use the Control Center to create the database from the backup. However, when I get to the screen to select the backup to restore from, there are no backup files visible through the Control Center even if I navigate to where I copied the backup file. Is there a reason why my backup files don't show up through the Control Center? Thanks. Is...

I have recently upgraded from SuSe 8 to 9 (kernel 2.4 to kernel 2.6). I am running DB2 8.1 FP 11 (aka 8.2 FP 4). I have had slowdowns that I suspect are related to the fact that an online backup is being run. Can someone help me understand the behaviour described below and offer a suggestion as to how to tune this ? Your assistance is appreciated. I have a system running at 95 idle before the backup starts. Once the backup is...

Hello, everybody. I've spent a lot of time reading "DB2 Information Center" and Raul Chong's book "Understanding DB2. Learning Visually with Examples", but still unable to answer this simple question. I need to perform the full database backup for at least these two goals: - to restore data onto developers' database system. - to ensure disaster recovery

We are running DB2 UDB 8.1 fp 14 on AIX using archival logging and online backups. I was running some disaster tests and found my database restore was not restoring to the latest active log. Online backup include logs. For this test I created a disaster where we lost the database about 30 minutes after the last backup. Current archive and active logs were saved off and I ran a Restore of the latest backup and rollforward to the end of...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
