Internet Connection Failing When Returning From StandBy

Hello,

I'm using:
  • Marvell Yukon PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller
  • Windows XP
  • DSL Connection

Anytime I bring my computer back from Standby my internet either doesn't work at all or will only work for one or two applications. For example sometimes it will come back and I can connect to MSN messenger but I will not be able to bring anything up in Firefox.

I've tried updating drivers as well as changing the power management settings on the ethernet controller but nothing has been successful so far.

If any more info is needed please let me know and I'll be happy to supply it.

I have no idea but since nobody has replied, i'll suggest something totally unrelevant and stupid :P
Maybe the connection keep-alive settings on the router or dsl modem has something to do with this?

Problem persists after restarting DSL router.

The only way I've found that fixes this issue is to restart my PC which is a nuisance and defeats the purpose of standby altogether.

Hi,
ok..then we can realise that the problem related with the O.S. I thing, some softwares in the pc may hang the internet connection.
So try by uninstalling the os and install. Also remove all the unwanted softwares in the pc....

At the moment I think I've resolved the issue. After tinkering with Ethernet card settings to no avail I decided to have a look at my firewall. Sure enough the security settings were maxed out and I'm assuming this was limiting my internet activity.

I'd recently switched from using USB to Ethernet and never having problems with the USB so I assumed this was a card related problem. I do believe upon recognizing the new card my firewall defaulted to it's highest settings.

Thanks for your input.

Hi, I'm writing an application that needs to know if an Internet connection is available. Basically, I want to have something similar to what a lot of email clients have, where the app can work either in "online" or "offline" mode (it keeps a cache of downloaded info, so it can work without a connection if needed). The basic problem is this: it downloads info (RSS feeds) from a variety of sources. Any one (or more) of these could...

Folks - Linux RH3, UDB 8.2 FP9. I've got two tiny test boxes that I'm setting up to get a simple HADR configuration built. When I start the primary I get the famous SQL1768 RC=7 and also this on the db2diag.log. This looks to me to be more than a simple firewall issue (which I've checked).

Hi, I've been using an Access application I wrote for an office with the front-end stored on all computers and the back-end on one of them serving as an Access file server. Now we're moving to a 2nd office 15 minutes down the road. Only one office will be open at a time, so theoretically it'd be possible to copy the back-end manually every night from one office to another, but frankly, that's pretty annoying.

Hello All, I am trying to redirect users to a standby webpage in case our application is down due to database server failure. To facilitate this I am opening a test connection within a try/catch block in application_beginrequest event of global.asax and in case the connection could not be established, I am redirecting the users in the catch block. Now to the interesting part. I am in the testing phase of this feature. Since our...

Hello everybody, I have been developing an application in Visual Basic.Net that queries an SQL database every 15 minutes. My problem arises when the computer upon which the application is running goes into standby mode. My application continues to run, but when the "15 minutes" timer fires, it cannot make the required connection to the database and the application crashes. What I really need is something to tell me the status of my...

db2 8.1 fix pack 12 on AIX 5.3 This is a newly configured HADR machine. The HADR was up and running. I was 'playing' around some on the standby and did a db2 deactivate and things sort of went down hill from there. Though the Standby machine seemed to know it was a standby it would not connect to the primary. I could not even do a db2 get snapshot to view the hadr status on the machine. I was wanting to do a few HADR tests before I...

I am starting to study internet synchronization, and my head is still spinning since internet is not my forte, however my boss is breathing down my neck at the moment. Our company has only one server with fixed IP address provided by our ISP, while the other sites (which I wish in the future hold the replicas databases) have only standard internet connections with Dynamic IP (which means that they change IP addresses, as given by the ISP...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
